not so long ago, i kept myself very dehydrated and i was always thirsty because i wanted the best results on the scale. Then i became very athletic (more than i already was) and couldnt keep this up, so i drank sooooo much fluid. the scale shot up 5 lbs but i dont think i overeat and my clothes fit fine. is it just my body saturating itself in water? how long does it for excess calories to store themselves as fat anyway?

It's water weight. Also, if you're athletic, muscle weighs more than fat, so could be your muscles. Get a tape measure and a journal and keep your measurements over time: lot more accurate than a scale. Also, is your scale out of whack?

you jumped back up because you had lost water and muscle in that 5 pounds and drinking again has put it back up to where you were to begin with.

how long? any excess calories that aren't used for energy are stored.
