people not respecting other people & their stuff!!!???
set the picture: a father is sick with a staff infection, very painful staff infection!!!! he is sent home from the hospital and is pretty loopy for a couple of days, because he is on pain medication!!!! his daughter & son-in-law stay for about a week to help out, because wife {mother} has to work full-time!!! they do misc. chores & "fix-it-stuff" around the house to help out!!! one of their "helping out ideas", is to proceed to clear out the father's clutter in the basement, without even asking him!!! SEVEN CARLOADS TO GOODWILL!!! now i ask you, is he a pack-rat???? YES!!! do they have the right to take things away from him, like he's dead, or something???
opinions, please????
and, thank you!!!

Yes unfortunately some people just take things for granted. Maybe don't realise that what they have done is actually a wrong thing and really thought it was a good idea. But no matter what they were thinking of, it was still wrong of them not to ask the person. I also think that this is stealing.

7 carloads??? Definitely a pack rat. HOWEVER they should have at least consulted with him about it before they hauled it away. Who knows, there could have been some stuff in there that had sentimental value. They should have waited until he was well enough to look through some of this stuff at least and then let him give the okay to toss the stuff.

What they did is so very wrong, what gives them the right to decide what to do with his things, how would they like it if you went to their home and sold all their things just because you feel they don't need them anymore? I'm sure they'd be pissed. They don't know if some or all those things had some sentimental value to your Dad. It was nice of them to help out but they went overboard with giving your Dads things away without even asking him. Just because they helped out doesn't give them the right to take over and do what they want, shame on them.

They shouldn't have done that, no matter how good intentioned. Okay, maybe, if there was some sort of health crisis looming, like rotten food and and infestation of rats or something dire like that. Sounds like maybe they had a bit too much time on their hands and convinced themselves that they were being helpful. Big mistake.

What??? Their conscience better bother them!!! If I was the father, I would feel pity for myself.. Treated as if dead?? Wow. It hurts!

And they should not touch belongings that are not theirs!

Urgh! I hate people that are like those..

Absolutely not. They should have discussed it with you and your husband first.
