Hi,
No it is not too early at all. In fact, you should get it done straight away.
There is absolutely no need to have a first litter. There is no evidence to suggest that it makes the mother cat any happier. Every kitten that is born, whether you keep the kitten or give it away, takes a life away from another kitten who could have been adopted from a rescue shelter.
Did you know that in the UK alone, over 100 cats and kittens are killed every day? This is because the shelters do not have enough room for them.
If everybody went to shelters to get their cats and kittens, this wouldn't happen. But because people sell kittens in the newspaper all the time, the general public go there first, thinking that shelters only rescue old or ill cats - which isn't true.
If you would like kittens for yourself, spay your cat and adopt kittens from a shelter. Sometimes you can even adopt orphaned kittens that you raise from birth, if that's what you are looking for.
Don't let your cat have 'just one litter', it adds to the problem.

It won't affect your cat's personality. In females, nothing changes, except that they will be less likely to roam, it decreases the risk of serious illness including cancer, it stops the (quite frankly) messy heat periods, and it will stop aggressive tom cats hanging around your house.

(someone else just asked a similar question so I'm copying and pasting my answer from there)
A puppy or kitten can be neutered as soon as it's two pounds in weight and two months in age. A lot of shelters nowadays are using this early spay/neuter because a) it ensures the animal going out of the shelter is definitely incapable of breeding and b) it's a lot easier on the animal at a younger age.
I wish ALL shelters would adopt this policy as there's really no way for a shelter to chase after everyone that's adopted a pet to make sure that they indeed get the pet spayed/neutered as promised when they adopted it. And by breeding the shelter animal they're just making MORE animals that need homes and adding to the pet overpopulation problem.

The only effect it will have on her personality is that she will not go wandering off to look for a mate.Do her spayed there is no need for her to have a litter of kittens in fact it is better for her to be done before she has kittens there is less chance of womb infection.

You can have a cat spayed without ever having had a litter and it's better for the cat to not put their body under the pressure of having a litter so young, get her spayed and it won't affect her personality or anything, in fact it will make her healthier.

Umm... do no longer cats come into warmth while they have given start? till you want yet another clutter you will possibly greater effective shop her interior. It in simple terms isn't healthy for her to nurse one clutter and be pregnant with yet another. particular, mom cats will kill and eat their kittens, or abandon them. this is common that a cat might desire to pass this is kittens - it relatively is what the carrying is, it relatively is a reaction to rigidity or what she percieves as an risky or unsuitable place for her kittens, if she gets greater under pressure she might react by killing the kittens, sort of a 'this is not risk-free right here, they gained't stay to tell the tale so i've got have been given to recoup many of the nutrition and pass on with the subsequent clutter this one is hopeless' instinct - this is all approximately renovation. Cats clearly want to cover their clutter in a quiet, out of how, dark place, it relatively is why given the possibility maximum cats will choose for to furnish start and shop their kittens able like the backside decrease back nook of a dismal closet in an unused room, if she's no longer in this sort of place and somewhat is in an opentoppped mattress together with her kittens interior the kitchen or a place frequented by people that's in all probability inflicting her some rigidity, the 1st few days she dealt with it because of the fact she substitute into in all probability wiped out yet now she needs to pass them. My suggestion is pass get a cardboard container, some thing restricted on 5 aspects with a hollow for mom and positioned it in an outta the way place. circulate the kittens gently with mom gazing, and in any different case leave her on my own different than to bathe the container and manage the kittens as quickly as an afternoon for the subsequent week. She appears like a super mom, she is familiar with what to do, in simple terms help her out.

You can spay her, and definitely having a first litter is not only unnecessary but harmful. There are too many unwanted kittens out there and you should spare your cat the health hazards a pregnancy and birth has for cats. Her personality doesn't change.

if you dont want to spade your kitten just yet in case it changes her personality then take her to the vets and see about putting her on the pill. this way she wont come into season and her personality wont be affected. my five month old kitten has just come into season for the first time but she has a heat problem and might not come round from the operation so i am going to but her on the pill.

No this is just the right age. Cats can be neutered from 5 and a half months old.
It will make her a lovely cat dont worry about her personality, she'll still be the same.

I had my 6 month old kitten spayed a week ago and had the same concerns but she's absolutely fine, just as loving and affectionate. I thought she'd be mad at me when I picked her up but she just wanted cuddles from 'her mum' so don't worry, it's the right thing to do!
Good luck :o)

It won't. Cats can be spaded when there about 8 weeks old and still live normally.
