I dewomed her when I found her (she was approximately 9 mos. old), and appeared to be cured; today I found a worm on her tail, close to her anus. She appears to be the picture of health! She has a shiny coat, perfect weight, active, etc.
I indend to take her to the vet tomorrow; but I want some info for my own benefit. HELP!

Cats get roundworms, tapeworms and hookworms (and they can get "ringworm" which isn't a worm).

It's easy to get reinfected. Check out the link I provided, it's really informative. According to it, the most common route of infection is when a cat swallows a flea that is carrying the parasite’s eggs.

Does it look like a grain of rice? Flat?

That's a tapeworm.
She'll be fine over night. but the vet is a must :)

If she doesn't have worms it's okay to deworm her again.
They should give you cestex for that.

They might want to do a fecal test so I would bring a stool sample in. They do that to look for intestinal parasites. Most of the time they can't see the tapeworm eggs under the microscope because they are in little sacs. The only way to see them is if the sac breaks open. The look for other worms such as rounds and hooks(which is rare in cats)

Good luck!

I had to edit because I didn't like the answer of the first person. Don't give over the counter medicine if you don't know what it is!!! It can be dangerous!!!!! So just go to the vet. :)

De-worming once sometimes doesn't succeed, because the eggs remain. You need to repeat the treatment after 14 days when she is a kitten, but at the age she is now I think you have to repeat every month for 3 months and then every 6 months. Give her Drontal pill FOR CATS (not dogs), dosage according to her weight, based on the instructions on the package. That's all anyone can do, so if you can find Drontal at the pet store you don't need to go to the vet.
