my dad thinks hes a punk. he says he didnt like my b/fs first impression. i have a really close relationship with my dad and he respects what i do. but he wont accept my b/f. and says he most likely never will. he liked my ex boyfriend. so hes not one of those overprotected fathers. how can i get my dad to give him a chance. ive asked him to give him a chance and my dad just blows me off. it hurts because of the relationship i have with my dad is really close. he has always been there for me and gives me advice and we can talk about anytihng. but im afraid now because i usually feel as if i have to hide my relationshoip with my b/f from him. i dont know what to do.

I wonder if maybe your dad is seeing something in your boyfriend that you don't? You say he isnt overprotective because he liked your last boyfriend, but he is somewhat protective of you, being your father, and i am sure he has your best interest at heart. Maybe this is something you could talk about with your dad (one of those real heart to heart chats). Ask him to be honest with you and tell you why he doesnt like this guy and how important it is to you that your dad be involved with your life. It might help to let him know you feel like you have to hide your relationship from him, when thats something you've not had to deal with before.
Good luck! I know relationships with dads can be tricky, but they are SO worth working on:-)

First, consider that your Dad might be right about your boyfriend. He and your Mom surely care for you more than anyone else.
But if you're sure about the guy, just continue on being yourself. Don't lord it over your Dad that you're going out with the punk all the time, but press on and endure Dad's disapproval.
At some point one of you will be proven right.

Maybe your dad sees something in this guy that you do not. Maybe it was the way he spoke to you or to your dad that made a bad first impression. I would trust your dad's instinct. He was once a young boy himself. You may thank him later for it.

Does your bf have a criminal record? If so how recent was it? If it is pretty current, then trust your dad, but if it was years and years ago, keep him. You can get backround checks on certain websites. Just go to backroundcheck.com. Good luck!

you may not realize it now, but your father knows whats best for you. You should trust him blindly. If this boy is going to come between you and your father drop him.
