Does anyone have an uncontrable fear of death? I lye awake at night sometimes and scare myself stupid, with the thoughts of what happens and just the fact that one day IT IS going to happen to me! Would be nice to know i'm not the only one....

Sorry to be morbid....
Thanks in advance....

death is inevitable but i stopped being scared because i think ill be reunited with my family somehow in a better world. just live your life because we don't know when were going and the only thing we can do is live.

I think this is quite normal. I also feel the same exteme anxiety/panic attacks about my own mortality and it got to a point where I thought it was unhealthy. It doesn't help if you're unsure on the life-after-death issue also! It can happen to me at any time, driving in the car, watching a movie, lying in bed, whatever. I believe most people feel this from time to time, some more acutely and frequently than others. If it gets to a point where you feel it's impacting your life in a negative manner, you might want to see a therapist.
I just read a very good book recently that covers this whole area (and many others) called NECESSARY LOSSES by Judith Viorst. I found it pretty helpful.
The important thing is not to allow the fear of death -- which I believe is a very natural human experience, even if a lot of people don't admit to it -- to stop you living your life to the full. It's such a waste, given that ultimately there's nothing any of us can do about the fact that we will all die some day.

That probably doesn't help much. But at least you should know you are far from alone on this.

Nothing wrong with being morbid sometimes!
Extreme morbidity is an anxiety state but it sounds as if you are just being a normal human being.
At different ages in your life the concept of dying will seem more important and fearful. You are not alone in this and as long as you never allow it to control how you live your life, don't give it a passing care.
Me, I am so involved with living I would hate to give it up.Yet the idea of being dead doesn't actually scare me.

I was just like you & then I got ill,I have a lung disease called cfa(cryptogenic fibrosing alveolitis) I ended up in ICU with acute respiritory failure ,I had to have my lungs "washed "& I knew that I was dying.(the dr's didn't want to tell me but I just kept asking) I had time to say goodbye to my husband & adult kids & yet I wasn't scared at allI It was as though a calmness had "enveloped" me.
I came through that but then the other organs began to shut down & I was put on a ventilator, obviously I dont remember that part .10 days later I came off it & it was a very slow road to "recovery" I only weighed 6 stone when I came out of hospital after another 3 weeks .
All that was in 2004 . I'm never going to get to be a little old lady, I'm not ready to die just yet but i'm not afraid anymore I know that when it 's my time to go I'll be ready , whether thats in 6 months or 6 years.
Please dont be afraid . I'm not religeous or anything but I know there's some thing wonderful ahead of us

Everyone has to die one day, not only you. I think you are in a depression. Change the environment around you, bring new look to your room. Go to nice places and meet nice people around you. Just spend some nice time and bring new smile to your life that will definitely bring nice effect to your mind. If your problems does not solve then consult nice physiologist. All the best.

yes, i bet you do the same as me, go to bed stare at the celing about to go to sleep THEN you think, how, what, when, why would i die!
i think the same for many things, but things like death is just like a grownup nightmare. like monsters under the bed

mum always taught me to feel better if i felt this,
mabey go shopping
or out t buy a hot chocolate
to take my mind off it.
i love mum for doing it, my lil brother was in hospital for a very long time at the age of 2 he had a transplant.
but the point got there as he nearley died , thepoint we needed to turn off the ventilator,
mum sat me down and told me about it.

over night we got him christened, the next morning he woke up!
just remember, if you do die, there will be great sadness, but someone up above loves you,
and while your alive LIVE LIFE TO THE FULL~!!!

lil' star
xx

I'm sure you are not the only one who is scared of dying (MY DAUGHTER SAYS "i used to be but i know that i will be going to a much better place where theres no pain or suffering and where you will see all theose you have loved &lost " ) It is something that will happen to us all one day we must accept this fact and enjoy life before then .

Hi
Yes I do, not all the time but sometimes I think of losing the people close to me and The thought of dieng myself. Things like the Diana concert last night can start it off. Makes me realise how insignificant I am

Well I can tell you that you're not weird. It is a common thing for people to think about death and to be scared.

I get scared a lot, but sometimes what helps for me is to think that when I die, I am going to Heaven and everything will be fine because I am with God and tons of other great people.

I do the same thing.
I convince myself that I will die soon. I loose sleep and appatite over it.
It's one of the things you only experience once, hense the reason we are scared.
It's okay to be scared, alot of people are, you are defintly not alone.
It'll happen and there is nothing you can do about it, just try your best to not think about it!
