Do lots of research and decide if you are ready. Also, you can get little pamphlets at your local animal shelter on caring for kittens. On the "pet" scale, cats are pretty low key and easy to care for. But don't be deceived... they still need lots of attention. Your work schedule is just like anyone else, they will be fine while you are at work! So if you get one kitty, you may as well get two. That way they won't get lonely while you are gone. As long as they have free range over the house and windows to look out and toys to play with and love from you all the time, you should be fine. But, ALWAYS adopt animals for the shelters. You save two homeless kitties from getting euthanized. They will love you forever. Really be sure you are ready though, and if you are, they will bring you much happiness!

If you love them and you can commit to not abandoning them later, sure you can take them. If I were you, I would rescue 2 kittens from a shelter. Their other option is much worse than what you have to offer anyway (death or a cage). Your house is not too big, but it's fine. If the kittens are 2, preferably brothers or friends already, so that they have no problems between them, they won't mind much your absence. You will have to spend a few minutes to give them food and clean the litterbox in the morning, then when you get back from work and just before you go to sleep. You will have to keep track of their yearly vaccinations, de-worming, etc. (a vet visit). You will also have to pass through the naughty stage, for a few months, when the kittens will want to drop things, scratch things, etc. Whatever you do, never declaw them. There are claw caps you can use, but the best thing is to spend some time teaching them what they can and what they can't do. When they do something they are not supposed to, take them softly from the neck, say No, and put them to another "play area", like their scratching post. It is important to give them an alternative. Getting them used to trimming their nails every month is a good idea. You must also neuter them when it is time, and make sure you buy the right food for neutered cats afterwards, to keep their urinary health.
Basically, life with cats is great, and whenever you have any problem you can ask here. Your work hours are not a problem.

One thing to remember with having 2 kittens, is twice the potential problems or damage that could occur.
When I was still young & starting out in my bachelor pad, I had one kitten. After an 8 hour day at work, that little guy was so affectionate & glad to have me back home. He would wait by the door as I came in, & follow me until we spent time together.
With a litterbox, food & water left for them.... that stuff can go everywhere in a new place. Plus the chance of doing "the business" not in the box but in other places could get smelly to clean up. You might want to start off with just one kitten at first, then move up to more later if things are ok..... it's just a thought.

I currently moved back in with family and i have one adult cat, in my apartment he was the sadest lonleyist creature, but my mom has two kittens just for the reasons you mentioned full time work and all, the boys as we call them really love each other and seem so happy to have each other, they sleep together and groom each other, now my cat loves having friends to play with and has lost weight from more activity. If you are really serious, get two to keep each other company, when your not around, and know they are an investment, shots, x2, food X2, litter x2, but best of all LOVE x2!! The vet will give you everything you could ever need to know if its a good vet. They will require you to clean boxs daily, feed daily, and play with daily and again give love daily, its all worth it!! Please be a good human and go to the local rescue center and adpot!! visit the ASPCA, or even the local vet might have some tips, they usually know someone who knows someone, if your in NorCal i can help, if not sorry, good luck!! (they are pests at first but they do grow up)

First of all you need to check with your apartment leasing agent to see if you could have pets, or if you could have two. Here efficiency apartments allow one pet, one-bedroom apartments allow two, but sometimes you have to put down a non-refundable deposit on each, sometimes you need that deposit plus monthly rent for them, etc. And you would have to have them neutered, and in most apartments they will need to have their front claws removed. Having said all that, that will set you back a lot of money. Then, if you're a bachelor and dating or wanting to leave the pets for the weekend, well who will feed them? And they will need three sets of shots the first year, and then yearly shots thereafter, and yearly licenses thereafter. Cats stay around up to 18 years or more so wherever you plan to move to you will have to plan for them as well. You will need carriers for both of them. You will need monthly flea prevention for them, and occasionally will have to fog your apartment to get rid of fleas. Of course you have to buy them good food (there's been a past pet scare) and give them daily water. Kittens are neat but in a short while they will probably weigh ten pounds each. You will need to train them to the sandbox because you live in an apartment, and will have to buy lots of sand and remember to clean it out daily and change the sand frequently. If you can afford all that then there are lots of places where you can get pets however if you get them from the vet or some organization that takes in pets that would be best. There might be a fee. Two pets are nice and they keep each other company. Two pets will keep you busy.

Like the first guy said little pamplets from pet stores are good but I think the best advice you can get is from a cat owner who had them since they were kittens I got my kitten a few months ago and I talked to my aunt who has 2 cats for hours about how to take care of it and stories about them. Some little basic things for kittens are:
-Feed them water not milk, or they will get diarreha.
-Name them soon so it will learn its name, like the first couple of days.
-Buy/make a scratching post and train them by moving their front claws on the post in a scratching like way.
-One litter box is fine for two but put more litter in the box than for one.
-You don't have to change the full litter when you clean it, just scoop out the mess and put about a cup of fresh litter in the litter box and mix it with the old.
-If they do something wrong or something you don't like say "No" first and if they do it again spray them with a water bottle and say no again and if they still do it again spray them twice and so on..

Hey!

Try this website http://cats.about.com/index.htm?terms=cats it has loads of practical info. Cats do need lots of affection and attention but they are also very independent and can entertain themselves, especially if you have two. Beware your furniture though leaving them on their own all day!!!
