They are very similar. Heat is applied without oil or water, in fact without a pan.
But grilling is done on a -grill-. The grill makes char marks on the meat (or other food). The heat might be from charcoal, so you get the flavor of the charcoal. But even if its propane, there is lava rock that gets hot, so juices and fat that drip from the meat burn up and you get some smoky flavor in the meat from that too.
Broiling is done in the oven with the heat -above- the food, so you don't get any grill marks or special flavors, just the heat of cooking. But it's easier to do indoors because the capability is built into your oven. And you still get the advantages of dry heat with no oil or anything.

Remember though, if it is a non US recipe then grilling is what you would call broiling (heat from above).
