Don't forget, that PS 3 is a lot faster, Sony's online word (release in October) is free, unlike Microspot's LIVE. There are going to be more than 300 games till the next spring. Sony has BD-DVD, Cell processor and a lot of other interesting stuff. Processor has an arcgitecture of Power PC (it's very strong). Xbox's architecture is just beefed up PC in a fancy box, not very powerful.
Trust me, while I was choosing, what to by, I went through a lot of technical data. Xbox 360 has an overheating problem (Microsoft said, that they removed this problem, but who beleives Billy Gates).
The only PS 3 disadvantage - power consumption - this baby eats a lot - up to 360 Watt.
Imho, PS3 will be good for 7-8 years, Xbox - year or two before it becomes outdated.

All right, straight forward and to the point. The ps3 will have a massive variety of games in the near future, xbox 360 will always be geared towards shooters (halo) and sports games (forza) though the 360 does have some RPG's, but are Americanized,so they aren't traditional RPG's (Fable).
The PS3 like I said earlier, will have many different genres, there will be FPS (Killzone 2, Resistance) Racing (Gran Turismo) fighting (Tekken 6) Action (Uncharted Drakes Fortune, Lair, Ninja Gaiden Sigma) Platformers (Ratchet and clank future TOD) Variety (Little big planet) and of course traditional groundbreaking Japanese RPG's (Folksoul, Final Fantasy XIII, Final Fantasy Versus XIII)
now take into account that if you want to play a good looking game, but also want it to be a long game with allot of replay value, you're going to need allot of space to store the game, if you want to play a high quality graphic game and have it also be long you're going to have to consider blu ray because of it's massive storage space, which allows for bigger, and more graphic games. And only the ps3 has blu ray.

Join the club. 360 has a lot of potential to become a great console in a few months. But if you want a steady game base that will usually put out decent games, go with PS3. But again, 360 will have all those amazing games that everybody will be talking about. H3 included. (nice hat)

I have a 360 and it really just depends on the games you like. PS3's are expensive but they also have a blueray player. PS3 happens to have games more geared to RPG's and the 360 has Halo 3 and Forza 2 and other good shooting and racing games.

Well it is like saying which motorcycle is better the Harley or BMW? Both of them are good. If you only care about games, then the Xbox 360 Elite is the best choice. The PS3 are trying to have more games but, you have to wait longer. If you like to watch movies, then the PS3 or 360 HD-DVD are both good. Blu-ray & HD-DVD are both the same because both of them are HD movies.
