A Theist is defind as being theism in the Yahoo on line dictionary. and theism is defined as : Belief in the existence of a god or gods, especially belief in a personal God as creator and ruler of the world.

An atheist as a noun or name is defined as One who disbelieves or denies the existence of God or gods.

In this section these are many who say they are Atheists who take the position that there is no god. Same spelling and same letters for A theist and an Atheist. The only difference is the blank space.

I just wonder why anyone would put so much importance on the blank space. So much in fact that it is in the opposite position. Is if a fact that blank spaces do say a lot more than words themselves in the English language? Maybe that blank space represents great wisdom in ones view. Now how can one prove that fact?

If this be true, should not the balnk spaces be studied more? Maybe more should just say blank spaces in their words and spend more time in thought?

Isurelyamatheist. AsIcanseefromesomeoftheotheranswerstheblankspacesarenotofanyvalue. Some languages actually write like this - in riddles.
But still - the only thing that separates an atheist from a theist is the little blank space... the small short time you have to think before going on to the next word.
And maybe this space - the time to think - is the most important time we get.

1) An (or the shortened version, a) is a West Germanic gender neutral pronoun that derives from the German 1, ein, and means "one of" as in "an apple" meaning "one (of) apple".

2) A- is a latin negative modifying preffix that means "without". "asexual" means "without sexual (intercourse)" and obviously "atheism" means "without theism".

The blank space is merely a way of seperating words, as in your example, the "a" as defined in 1) has no direct influence on the meaning of "theist" other than how many there are. You're basically just abusing the symantics English has inhereted by borrowing (read: butchering) other languages into itself.

By the way, the probably more correct version of "a theist" would be "an theist". Obviously this has no connection to the meaning of "atheist" either.

The blank space is not the only difference. There are two different languages represented.

The English "a" signifies "one, singular" while the greek root "a" means "apart, away from, without"

Atheist, then is a singular word with a singular root language, while A Theist is two words with two different root languages.

So- cute, waxing philosophical, but not quite.

*edit* Crap- just saw Julian X's reply after posting- great minds must think alike. :p

very funny...
but you are looking at it all wrong...

the "a" in a theist... is an article...

where as the "a" in atheist
is a prefix that means "not"...

the blank space has nothing to do with it...
although it I like the way you think...
You should study electronics and "hole flow"
that is the study of a blank or empty space...

Peace...
