Can Styrofoam be like a poisonous to humans?

Question

My dad got sick and a friend of his told him it might have been from styrofoam poisoniong. I guess he had reheated some food in a styrofoam container and it kind of melted, but didn't think it would do any harm.

I have never heard of it being harmful like this...and don't think they would sell it if it was, but I'd like to hear if anyone else has heard of this or had an experience or something.

If you burn styrofoam i.e. in a campfire o fireplace it gives off toxic fumes nut not from using it to reheat in the micro.

Styrofoam is a synthetic (man made) material. Anything unnatural isn't really good for us. Drinking out of styrofoam cups, eating out of bowls and plates made of styrofoam won't kill you, but don't by any means ingest it. In some cases, if enough styrofoam gets in your stomach and is mixed with dairy products, the result from the mixture of the styrofoam, dairy and stomach acid can produce a glassy substance capable of cutting your insides up.

Totally. Styrofoam lets of CFCs when heated. Considering that styrofoam is all synthetic anyway, it make sense. I hope your Dad is ok and if he is really bad, take him to the hospital, quick!

I'm sooo sure that if you like, ate some styrofoam and whatever, that you could totally be poisoned and some junk.

Yeah, styrofoam is poisonous if you burn it.
But it has to be from it being on fire, like if it was giving off a smoke. You would have to inhale it for it to be poisonous
