Temple garments are special garments bought through the church that adults who have gone through the Temple Endowment ceremony wear as a reminder of the promises they made with God on the day of their ceremony.

Hmmm....doesn't appear that any participating "Mormons" have answered this yet.
"Kellye" gave the most accurate answer of the bunch. She must have had significant experience either in the Church or with others who are as her answer includes LDS-specific terminology.
The garment is a very personal and sacred part of being a latter-day saint. We don't talk about it much, even among those in the Church. It is primarily to act as a constant reminder of the promises that we make as followers of the teachings of Jesus Christ and the special promises (covenants) that we make in the Temple.
In casual conversation, some people who don't know anything about it have referred to the garment as "magic underwear". Not accurate at all. Another answerer here said something to the effect that since the "Mormons" have a monopoly on manufacturing and selling garments that they must be making a fortune off of them. That's almost laughable. They are relatively inexpensive and are sold at or near cost. Recently the price of garments actually decreased a bit after a review by Church leaders.
Hope that helps you understand a little better.

Why not? Why have other churches lost the principle?
Genesis 3:21 Unto Adam also and to his wife did the LORD God make coats of skins, and clothed them.
Revelations 19:14 And the armies which were in heaven followed him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean.
Ezekiel 42:14 When the priests enter therein, then shall they not go out of the holy place into the utter court, but there they shall lay their garments wherein they minister; for they are holy; and shall put on other garments, and shall approach to those things which are for the people.
Ecclesiates 9:8 Let thy garments be always white; and let thy head lack no ointment.
Isaiah 61:9 And their seed shall be known among the Gentiles, and their offspring among the people: all that see them shall acknowledge them, that they are the seed which the LORD hath blessed.
10 I will greatly rejoice in the LORD, my soul shall be joyful in my God; for he hath clothed me with the garments of salvation, he hath covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decketh himself with ornaments, and as a bride adorneth herself with her jewels.
Revelations 3:4 Thou hast a few names even in Sardis which have not defiled their garments; and they shall walk with me in white: for they are worthy.
5 He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels.

The actual purpose for them is to promote modesty. The idea is that if your clothing covers the garment completely, then your outfit is modest enough to be wearing.

Because they are so sexy.
Did you know that the Mormon church has a monopoly on that business? Must be raking in a fortune since you can't buy them anywhere else.
