Yes I have, and I still do.
When I was 8 years old, my Godfather gave me a little female black lab puppy. I named her Sam, I loved her like she was family, and cared for her. She had a couple batches of puppies, and we kept one, named him Jack.... 5 years later, my father beat her to death because she sat in his chair, and I held her all night while she bled to death internally. I knew she was in pain, I could not help her other than to comfort her with my love. I still miss her to this day, as she was my first puppy.
Blessings and love,
Sassy
I love you Sammyjane.

yes I was 12..and I sneaked out the house the night she got hit and crawled into daddy's car and held my precious dog for a long time. They came out and got me and daddy brought her somewhere and buried her the next morning.
I tried hard to not become dependent on another dog for affection. But once again my beloved pet was gone.
It teaches us that life is so fragile and to make the most of the lives we have.

it would be weird to not have loved a pet and not mourned its loss.

Very much so. It was just as hard as losing a person I loved.

Everyone has, at some point. I'll be the first to admit to this.
And I know what you are hinting at, and that is just disgusting.
