To manipulate their thinking and handicap their minds? You bet it is!

Children should know what they are up agianst. in the end tell them not to worry and that God is there and will protect you from the evil. (and by the way, DeAnna, Hell is worse than anywhere. All eternity you will be a slave, working under intense heat. You will be thirsty and hungery all the time, yet these desires will not be met. The whole time you will never have one break. Remember, this is forever...)

Not if you teach what the Bible says hell is. It is the grave. When we die, it is like we are sleeping as Jesus said about Lazuras. The dead have no thoughts or feelings, can feel neither pleasure or pain. That is what the Bible says in Eccles. 9:5,10 plainly.

Teaching a place of torment is a lie and should not be taught.

I don't think it's child abuse, I think it depends on the religious upbringing of the child. If the family is Christian, for example, they will obviously be taught about Heaven and Hell simply because they are two thouroughly discussed places in Christian teachings.

I wouldn't consider it child abuse, but it's probably not something really nice to do. It will bring him a lot of trouble with other kids and he won't even know how to get out of them, since he's too young to even understand his family's religion. I am a very faithful christian, and I take care of two of my cousins who will soon become my god-daughters. I never talk to them about hell. Not yet. I'd rather talk to them about how great God is, about how much he loves us and the things that he did for us, like sending Jesus Christ to save us. I like talkin to them about all the things that Jesus Christ taught us to do. I think they can wait until they're older to hear about hell. At least old enough to really understand what it's all about instead of freaking out and telling their friends about how they're going to die. Then their friends tell their parents and the parents get offended and it's just a lot of trouble. Wait until the kid can understand.

Of course not. Teaching kids that if they aren't perfect individuals that they will feel the wrath of God and be sent to the pits of fiery hell isn't abusive at all.

Is "hell" worse than Darfur? Iraq? Just curious.

No more than it would be child abuse to teach children about other dangers.

I teach my kids about God and other religious isues. But I also teach my kids about avoiding other scary issues, like stranger danger, what good touch and bad touch is and what to do if anyone was to do that to them. I also teach them how to stay safe.

So, is it immoral to teach my kids those things, or would I be irresponsible if I didn't prepare my kids to avoid dangers?

many parents don't really teach their kids anything at all! no manners,no respect no morals or that there is a GOD in heaven that made and loves them.it is a form of neglect but if you do not believe yourself then your children will hopefully learn of GOD and heaven and JESUS and the holy spirit somewhere along the way and will choose for themselves how they choose to believe and live their lives.that is a choice we all will make and not choosing is still a choice.good luck.

I thought they were all going to heaven anyway, no need to teach them about Heaven or Hell until the age of reason.

We teach our children not to play in the street, not to go swimming alone, not to take drugs, etc. We teach them these things because we love them and don't want them to get hurt. I love my children and want them to know the Lord and have eternal life in Heaven.
