Just to see what the more interesting questions answered tonight were I went along checking the ones with the most stars and here they are:
(1) who will admit they have a devastating crush on me? 18 +
(2) What the heck is wrong with these people? 15 +
(3) Does scotch help understanding R&S on Sunday? 07 +

My simple question for anyone that would enlighten me is what was so special about these questions that made them receive so much praise?

1) The question is funny and humorous, and the asker is a respected regular with a lot of contacts. Thus many people saw and answered that question, and gave it a star - don't you star questions that your friends ask?
(2) A question about a touchy, slightly provocative topic, that stirred up a lot of controversy with christians and non-christians.
(3) Just simply a cool question from an asker that started to slowly give up on the pointlessness and hopelessness of certain questions and answers. Don't we all feel like that sometimes?

Well, it seems that you are implying that atheists cannot be, or are not, disciplined. This is simply not the case. We cannot assume that because one is an atheist, that one is scattered and not mindful. Yes, the world religions have had an organizing, but not always civilizing, effect on humankind. Throughout history, the amount of killing that has gone on in the name of God, and continues to occur, is horrific. That is not what I would consider a civilizing effect. As far as the "brats" are concerned, were you not young once? Of course some people say things that they would not say to your face; but that's not confined to the youth. It is probably a good exercise in many ways and gives everyone an opportunity to not only give some harmless "in your face" comments, but provides a means of exchanging ideas. Yes, some of it is drivel, but you never know who you might influence positively. I have been given thumbs down for citing history which cannot support certain "Biblical facts", but I don't go off in the corner and pout about it. I smile and continue to read and research. I actually find some of the "brats" witty and amusing. I love it when someone can make me laugh out loud. I'll give them a thumbs up for humor, if for nothing else. Are we in public? In a sense yes, but we are also anonymous to an extent. That anonymity provides us with a greater freedom to express what we really feel without the constraints society usually puts on us. Don't be so hard on the brats. They are our future and I love them! Just as they might be disrespectful, they are also bright, witty, thoughtful, idealsitic and are at least interested enough to respond (even if not always in the ways you would like).

First of all, the last portion consisting of a question was phrased in such a manner that, at first glance, I did not read "what was so special" but, "what was so helmet-retarded". Your personal offense came off loud and clear, in any event. Secondly, it is clear that you've not yet grasped the concept of mutually understood "inside jokes". These questions were posed for the exclusive purpose of fun and humor, with no ulterior or strictly intellectual motive. For Bob's sake... SLACK off!

I'd say the first questioner has a sense of humor and is, deep down, hotter than you ever imagined. #2 asked a question truly worthy of some answers and received mostly kindness and agreement from all. And as for 3, hey - the guy's toasting us all. Can't beat that.

Or... they're so special because I answered them all (oh, wait, no - I asked one). ;-P Humor, compassion and a sense of fun go well together. These 3 questions have achieved that this evening.

it's atheists nite out. the missus/mister and the kids are asleep, the cat has been put out for the night...and well, it's time for some down-home atheist fun.

1. checking to see if their loins are still worth anything on the virtual meat market.
2. heckling and mooning in the back row.
3. getting high.

for atheists, this is the purpose-driven life...

The first two I would also attribute to simple boredom. The third, however, shows a profound level of enlightenment. LOL

(1) - stupid and juvenile
(2) - I'd have to look at the question
