It might be, if it were not full of errors. (There are hundreds.)

The Bible or any other Holy Book can never provide a universal life lesson because extracting happiness from life means following a different path for everyone. Living my life the exact same way as my mother lived hers is not going to make me happy because I am a different person than she is.

You know, I thought this same question at one point. However, I then realized that as a Christian I would actually not live as "heavenly" a life on earth as if I decided to take the easy way and follow my own choices when it was convienent for me to do so. . . so the answer is no. It is the few who will follow the righteous path, and for those few who do, it will not be a fun and heavenly life on earth since there will always be people who choose not to follow the laws of God. Now, if we all followed God's laws and the bible to a tee, then yes, I would say we would have a sort of heaven on earth. . . but, the bible is meant for show us how to be servants to our fellow man, bringing others to know Jesus, and to love others while we are on earth and remember the day that we will get to go to heaven due to God's Grace.

I've been believing just that for a long time. I think the after life is here whether we stay in spirit or are reincarnated. And other than that, heaven and hell are just the consequences of our actions. Sometimes the conquences take a little longer than other times.

The answer to your question might just come from what is called the Lord's prayerYour kingdomd come,Your will be done on earth as it is in Heaven. I have had the thought that part of focusing on the trip to heaven is to work on making earth more like heaven.

We don't know what awaits us in the afterlife so why not do everything we can to make this world a better place for all and to work toward peace on earth? What've we got to lose? We make choices because they're the *right* choices -- not for possible rewards.
Rya Layne: How many of us would agree that "happiness" is life's goal? Who was it who promised you a rose garden?

If that were its main purpose, why would it place such emphasis on the eternal things? I don't argue that it could be a guide for such things, I would just say that I think it would be impossible to really read it and come away with the impression that that was its primary purpose.

Yes. We simply need to take what Christ taught and apply it to our own lives, instead of using it as an excuse to condemn everybody else.
When Christ taught us to pray he said “your will be done on earth as it is in Heaven.” How can God’s will be done on Earth? Only if His believers will permit His will to be done by submitting to His will.

Sorry. That isn't so. Certainly God wants us to live according to his wisdom and that will help us be happier here on earth, but the goal is not to make this a heaven.
