But seriously, was it 'commitment' that drove them to resist arrest or the flailing that comes with being set alight?

I see your point. It would be a different story if they resisted being extinguished. It actually took commitment for the officers to attempt to arrest people who were on fire at the time.

we need to relise the current protections worked
thus these failed attempts arnt reason for more oppressive laws [that only further demean our inherant rights [duties and obligations]
