Christians can. It's jehovas witness' that can't.

Don't know exactly why it's against their religion, but it is.

The woman you saw was probably a Jehovah's Witness, who are known for refusing blood transfusions. Most Christian denominations are not opposed to transfusions.

I am a christian but I understand this, the blood has the character of the person. There was once a show on 60 minutes about an older person that did not drink or get high in any way. After a blood transfusion the person took on the character of the person that had donated the blood. This is what people mean when they say life is in the blood.

Every Christian I know *can* have blood transfusions! The only people I know of who can't have them, "because it was in the Bible", was probably referring to the perverted New World Translation which only Jehovah's Witnesses use!

You are confusing Christian with Jehovah's witnesses. Christians have blood transfusions. I would. That is the problem, all the religions are considered "Christian" when that is not true. A christian is a follower of Jesus Christ and adheres to his teachings and not a religion so to speak.

Acts 15:28,29
Genesis 9:3,4
Leviticus 17:11,12
These are just a few scriptures that condemn using blood. Read them in your OWN copy of the Bible (otherwise people will claim that we have an inacurate translation). God considers it sacred, and there is much better healthcare.
We have a video about the alternatives, and one statement (that a non-JW doctor made) was that the only doctors who refuse to agree to perform a bloodless surgery are careless.

And Rhsaunders, if a doctor told you to abstain from alcohol, wouldn't injecting it into your veins be the same as drinking it? Yes, it would have the same affects. Injecting blood into your veins is the same as eating the blood.

It's a mis-reading, based on an OT prohibition about eating blood. Jehovah's Witnesses and a few others follow this tradition. Apparently the Christian involved had never heard of the Eucharist.

I'm a christian and I don't believe in that. To be more specific, Jehova's witnesses are the ones who believe that they cannot get blood transfusions, I just don't know why.

Jehovah's Witnesses are true Christians who heed the Bible Scriptures on God's admonition to abstain from blood. Some misinformed people and some others claim we are not Christian but they have no idea of what they are talking about. This year, Jehovah's Witnesses are having three day district conventions around the world on Following the Christ. If following in the footsteps of Jesus Christ and exercising faith in Jesus' ransom sacrifice as the only means of salvation provided by Jehovah God doesn't constitute you as Christian, where does that leave all the others who claim to be Christian but don't follow in his footsteps. The Bible at Acts 15:20,29 says to abstain from blood. Anything that is injected into your body through transfusion is used by your body, How do they feed you when your unconscious? By transfusion. What is blood, it is protein and fats, it is also foreign to your body since it has it's own DNA makeup, meaning your body will recognize it as foreign and a protein, or otherwise, FOOD. God also says that blood is sacred and only used as a sacrifice or otherwise spilled back onto the earth, life is in the blood God says. Using blood for something other that what God declares belittles it's importance and would make the sacrifice of Jesus, where he spilled his blood for us, seem worthless. I also see others claim our Bible is different, well this is from the KJV Bible, Acts 15:20,29 But that we write unto them, that they abstain from pollution od idols, and from fornications, and from things strangled, and from blood. That ye abstain from meats offered to idols, and from blood, and from things strangled and from fornication: from which if ye keep yourselves, ye shall do well. Fare ye well. These so called Christians do not even know their own Bibles.

JW's are the ones who don't believe in blood transfusions, not Christians. There's some little verse in the bible that they think prohibits it.

Acts 15:29 says that we are to "abstain from the meat of sacrificed animals to idols, blood, strangled animals, and from unlawful marriage."

To put things into context, this verse clearly refer to pagan worship: The Disciples were preaching the Gospel to people who weren't Jewish, and they were trying to blend in the Good News of Jesus with their tradition. In other word, they were telling them "As long as you aren't doing such and such, you can keep your traditions". One of these tradition was mixing blood with wine, while strangling an animal will not drain it from its blood. So drinking blood is a big no-no.

Does this extend to transfusion? Jehova's Witnesses seem to think so, but the rest of us doesn't.
