In high school I didnt have very good grades and I ended up getting my GED after I failed senior year, but I have been attending a community college. My question is, if I maintain a 2.5-3.0 GPA while in community college will I be able to get a ROTC scholarship or will I automatically be passed over because of my lack of a high school diploma and lack of strong academic background? This is for you recruiters or ex-recruiters or just anybody else who has been or has known somebody with this problem. I know it says on the Army website a list of requirements but I would like to know some first hand information.

Oh and I plan on getting into a four year school of course before trying for the Army ROTC scholarship. SUNY Cortland to be exact in New York State.

well, at least you didn't say Potsdam...

you should be able to join ROTC. whether or not they will offer you a scholarship..depends. you may have to submit an application more than once and you wil be competing against others who didn't fail high school or settle for a GED. You may have to end up doing the whole four years without a contract and then apply to OCS.

The best thing to do is to talk to the ROTC advisor at the college you are going to. There is no committment, in fact you can take the first two years of coursework with no military committment. I can tell you there is a lot of scholorship money out there, especially in Army ROTC but you have to meet certain requirements, and some of those are academic. If you are serious about a military career, then you really need to start developing a plan right now.

Doubtful. If you can maintain more like 3.2 or 3.5 + in community college then maybe. But 2.5? That's darn close to failing community college too. Remember the college has to accept you before the ROTC program can.

I don't know. I just want to say "Good Job!"
It appears like you got your academic act together.
I hope it all works out the way you want it to.
