the only oil i ever use any more is synthetic oil ,Mobil one is the best that i have used in a long time,i usually go with a 5-w-30 in most vehicles,it holds up extremely well, and will allow you to go longer on oil changes also,it cost more, but the savings on engine repairs is worth it,i have also found that it helps most cars get a little better mileage also, you can try it,and if you don't like it ,you can always switch back to regular oil, good luck with it.

Personelly I prefer good old valvoline for cars and shell rotella t for diesels.I view synthetics as a waste of money unless the car manufacturer requires it for waurranty.I have seen many cars with many hundreds of thousands of miles on them that only used plain motor oil changed at regular intervals. The only mechanical problem I've suffered that I would attribute to motor oil was a cam that flattened out two lobes I was using castrol.

Pretty much any sinthetic oil would be great. However, if your car has high mileage then I would recommend a motor oil especially designed for hight mileage vehicles; but as long as you use a fully sinthetic oil you should be good. Today there are excellent brand names such as Havoline, Texaco, Mobil 1, Quaker State, Penzoil... and they're all actually extremely good. So, depending on your preference choose. I personally like Mobil 1 because I believe it has the best range of products available, but I would also check the Quaker State Q line of products because you might find something in there that grabs your attention more than any other. Only downside to Q from Quaker State is that as far as I know they don't have any high mileage oil yet.

Ok, someone has to be different. I have switched to Shell Rotella T for my gas engines. I also view synthetic as a waste of money. You do not get extended change intervals with this expensive oil and I have driven EVERY CAR I HAVE OWNED over 200,000 miles using every oil you can imagine EXCEPT synthetic. Ok Ok,,name brand oils.
Now, why have I changed to a diesel oil..Do a search for recent cam failures and reduced Zinc in motor oil. In the past few years, oil manufacturers have REDUCED the main antiwear additive in motor oil..ZINC..Diesel oil, due to very high stresses retain this additive. Roller cams are not as susceptible to zinc loss as are tappet cams.
Good Luck whatever you decide

Our shop uses valvoline as the house oil. It's what we have always used. most motor oils now days (at least the name brands) are fine to use and will keep your motor running at it's best. I would however check the containers them selves and see if any of them use Teflon. Stay away from these oils. Teflon is known to clogs oil ports and the oil sump screens on engines. thus reducing your lubrication abilities.

A good synthetic of the same viscosity recommended by the manufacturer. Mobil One is a good choice.
