Ok- someone asked for prayers for her granddaughter. A Wiccan member of our little forum here offered up a prayer in her own way, yet all that people could manage to do was spread the intolerance with a bunch of thumbs down for the woman.

I was taught to believe that ANY prayer, if it is heartfelt, is more than good enough, regardless of the religion of the person offering it up.

Why are some of you so petty and intolerant that you have to be nasty like that? Isn't it enough that the girl gets the prayers, no matter how they get there???

Are some of you that damn shallow?

William - you're sorry I was taught to be a decent human being? Shame on you, and shame on whoever taught YOU that being a decent human being isn't good.

Squirt -thank you - but never feel you have to apologize for other's behavior (unless they're your kids under age 18- LOL!)

Steven - exactly - faith in humanity.

Morgana - I believe the studies that say people present themselves online much as they do in real life, sadly. I believe these people really are that way.

I don't think anyone should be put down on account of their different beliefs, and if people were belittling this woman than that is a disgrace. I won't pretend to know anything about how Wiccans pray, but I leave it up to God to determine what is an acceptable prayer, because I believe that's where prayers wind up.

If people disagree with her, the best way to express said disagreement is with a civil discussion. Persecution usually only strengthens one's resolve and convictions, and will lead to an ignorance and disregard of the other person's beliefs for all parties involved.

( 1 ) good question like why is it here in R&S to began with and even more so why did it get more stars than any of the other questions about the different religions that were asked??
( 2 ) Take the time to see which class of people that answered your question got the most bad marks so far!!
( 3) The system seems to be very lacking in certain areas.
( 4 ) last yes some people may have upset others by stateing their opinions but that is what this Q&A system is for to ask and answer everyones question/and perhaps a few prayers for individuals in need.
(5) We " all of the people here " should try to show proper respect for eachothers beliefs - whatever they may be, and not act in anger towards anyone.

I am an atheist, a spiritual one, and I have prayed, as it were. Not to any deity, just to the kindness and compassion of the earth and its people and to that ever-present energy field all around us. I find it absolutely sickening that your friend was treated like this. I've been there too. That some people are so insecure about their beliefs they have to be hateful is a scary thing. Wasn't it Jesus who said to always be kind, compassionate and tolerant? There are so-called Christians who say they follow the words of Christ but then prove they don't a sentence later. I have no respect for anyone who would treat people as your friend has been treated. Those that choose to live by Jesus' values are the only true Christians I've ever seen on here.

I don't honestly know. I think that people are far meaner and nastier here online than they might be in person. This forum gives them the anonymity to be as vicious as they please without getting punched in the face.

It is a sad commentary on the human condition when the urge to be mean comes to the surface quite readily when the opportunity arises to do so without fear of personal retribution on one's personal body.

The tragedy is that they take no responsibility for the reaction others will have to their words. And mean words hurt. Put downs and angry nasty comments directed toward anyone are bad enough, but when they are directed at prayers for a little girl....that is pathetic.

I hope they mean spirited people who write these things take time out to think of how such things would affect their own children. Perhaps they might think twice before lashing out so thoughtlessly.

Thank you for bringing this up, it bothers me so much that we can't treat each other civilly on this forum. I hope it does some good.

People in the gardening section behave themselves much better!

Bright Blessings,

I'm a Wiccan and I certainly do NOT pray to any devil! I don't even believe in such! I pray, meditate, and I believe that any heartfelt prayer no matter what manner or language you use will be felt by "God/Goddess." There are a lot of very, very, shallow people out there who believe there way HAS to be right because THEY believe it. Don't be brought down by these unkind people, be positive, and remember that they are the ones that are negative!

I completely aggree with you. If the pray is not what people were expecting they will flame you for it!

Just because someone prays to God, Allah, Shiva, Rhiannon, Satan, Athena, or The Flying Spaggetti Monster it should be give a thumbs down?

I don't think so!! She asked for a prayer and she got a prayer. So what if it wasn't to a god that most people follow.

Good energy is good energy no matter who it comes from!

Thank you, Pin! I am Wiccan and have gotten so many thumbs down on here for answering in a kind and helpful way. It is very frustrating sometimes. I pray every day--and my prayers are heard just as well as anyone elses. I am so glad that GOD is NOT a member of a particular Church or Religion! Again, Thanks and Brighest Blessings!

Thank you for your comments.

I am a Wiccan and have actually stopped sending prayer and blessings to people who are obvious christians due to the backlash i get! I often get nasty emails for days afterward.
One person abused me terribly saying that i should not of answered and lit a candle for her grandmother because it was satan i was asking to help her ...and that my actions had led to her grandmothers death!
It is sad because i believe that the positve energies raised by anyone wishing another person well is a very powerfull tool!
Thank you again.
Blessed Be!

Well, if all paths are valid as they all aspire to and seek the divine, then I agree with you, that no matter who says the prayer, or what faith they profess, it can be effective, however I believe also if you pray against the will of the person you are praying for then it is not a productive use of your energies.

I offer prayer if asked and I am not christian by any stretch. IMO prayer is the same as good wishes..

I think *some* christians do not understand wicca and its a shame because its such a peaceful religion as opposed to some other more mainstream religions.
