alcohol contains alot of carbohydrates and calories in general. a long island ice tea for example has about 1000 calories. So if you drink 2 of those a day you pretty much drank all of the calories you should have for a day. Now if you a drink every once in awhile and not to an excess then no it is not better than drinking any when it comes to weight. In fact as far as health is concerned a glass of wine is suppose to be good for you if you drink one glass a day. Im not sure exactly why...

Drinking definately makes you gain weight. Alcohol is filled with empty calories, meaning no nutrients. Your body isn't getting what it needs, but it's still getting the calories.
After a night of drinking, you may step on the scale in the AM and see that you weigh less, but this is only because of dehydration.
Down the road, you'll see it in your belly, hips, etc.

No. Actually I was 10 lbs lighter when I was a heavy drinker. I guess I was not getting the nutrition from food or I was unhealthy from drinking too much. But than don't start drinking as a diet regimen, I feel much better without the alcohol.

It depends. Alcoholics are often not overweight. However they often have a pot belly. Digesting alcohol takes the entire focus of your system so other nutrients to straight through you... if you drink enough. If an alcoholic stops drinking, or slows down greatly, the weight is often gone in a matter of a few weeks.
I wouldn't say that alcohol builds fat, but very often people crave fatty foods.......

It's not really the alcohol, it's the drink. Alcohol is very high in sugars/carbs. That is what puts the weight on. Just like if you ate a loaded baked potato every day. Alcohol abuse will lead to liver failure and a fatty tissue build up in that mid-section. So not only does it directly put on weight, it indirectly builds up fat.

Alcohol makes you so stupid that if you weighed 500lbs,you think you are a super model!
Sure you would weigh less!Alcohol is full of calories, unless you eat to make up for the alcohol you don't drink!

Yes, simply because alcoholic drinks tend to contain large numbers of calories.

Yes, if you drink to excess. Alcoholic beverages are full of empty calories that promote fat.

Methinks you could have worded the question better, but yes, regular/heavy drinking makes you put on weight.

i think it probably does lots of empty calories in alcohol. The best is barcardi and diet coke and clear spirits have less calories than dark ones.
