Gifts should always be tailored to the people you're buying for, but here are some general ideas I have done a few times with great success...

Buy a nice picnic basket with handles and a lid and buy things to put in it (depending on what they like); a bottle of wine, two wine glasses, a picnic tablecloth/blanket and nice book they can read together while on a picnic, for example. Then put a nice pretty bow on top of the picnic basket and, voila, there's your present!

If you're working on a tighter budget, you can buy a nice tea kettle and fill it with some nice cloth serving napkins, flavored tea bags, and chocolates...

the wedding day is a crazy day and flies so this stuff is better spent not on that day ; she has her family, her Mom who will want to spend time with her daugther ; she has a husband now ; don't think that this day is the right day for her to give up time to have her nails done by you or a foot massage; put together a romance basket for the happy couple to use; a bottle of wine; two nice wine glasses (don't have to be expensive ; just glass ; different shape ; you can even handpaint them if you are creative; a poem in a frame; a music CD; some candles ; scented oil, a dvd ; you get the idea

Because this is a second marriage and an older couple, they have probably accumalted most of the household items they are in need of. A sentimental/memorable gift may be something that the couple could do together or share together or something that would symbolize a meshing of the families. Because my husband is from Germany, and clueless when it came to traditional wedding gifts, my dad and stepmother helped me pick out wedding jewelry-something that my future husband didn´t do.

Why not take your mom to a jewelry store-one that is affordable to your budget- and tell her that you want a gift she can wear at her wedding, and always.

I picked out earrings at Sam´s Club (the budget was $100) that had gold and a drop pearl earring-something I had never bought for myself-and they are gorgeous. They looked great in pictures and in the video. They were only $50, so my parents let me keep the other $50, and I spent it on a veil (that my friend made for me) and wedding shoes.

That's a tough one because I don't know how old you are or how much money you can spend. So, without knowing much about you or them, here's an idea: Gather up pictures of them from the time they met until their wedding. Buy one of those collage picture frames and put the pictures in it. I just made one for my dad for father's day. I found old pictures from when my sibs and I were little. It was his favorite gift!

A wedding photo album, a picture frame for their wedding picture.
An evening away in a nice hotel.

Something very personal to them, something sentimental. A cruise is a great gift if you can afford it or have siblings to split the cost with.

Get them a gift certificate to a place you know they both like to shop at.

It would probably depend on your budget. Personally, I think a wedding albumn with a personal inscription inside from you or perhaps one ornate picture frame for them to frame thier special day.

Hope this helps! :)

useful gifts are things like silver candelabra, silver coffee and tea set, silver bowls, set of dishes with gold rim, good silverware, picture frame with their names and wedding date engraved on the stand, a nice cake knife with a bow that they will cut their cake with, etc.
