Split ends sometimes occur naturally.
More often than not, though, they are caused by chemical damage, but hair dryers and curling irons add to damage as well. Also, thin hair is prone to splitting.
Since you say that you don't straighten or dry your hair, these are not the reasons for your splitting.
Some things you can do to prevent splitting:
Wash your hair with shampoos less often. There are oil stripping factors in shampoos that you want to avoid. On between days if you take a shower, simply finger scrub your scalp with the water and condition the tips of your hair only.
Deep condition your hair regularly
Use a wide tooth comb or afro pick to comb your hair when it is wet while the conditioner is in it, in the shower, but don't come or brush it again until it is fully dry.
When your hair is dry, use a boar's bristle brush to brush your hair, and brush from root to tip to spread the oils through to the end of your hair.
use a daily leave in conditioner
Don't use rubber bands or metal clips on your hair
Trim your ends every 2 months and only on the full moon (old wives tale) and don't let the stylist use a razor it will shag the ends.
You may be genetically inclined to split ends, so add some gelatin capsules or a cup of Jell-O to your diet once a day, a wonderful side affect of that is it will also improve the condition of your nails.
I can't think of anything else.

Deep condition your hair-- the strands are probably really dry and brittle. Once you see an improvement in the ends, go for a cut.
Watch what you're eating-- nutrition plays a big role in the health of your hair. Fruits, veggies (you can never go wrong with more of these) and more protein. For a simple at-home treatment, olive oil/egg white/coconut oil is great for moisturizing. Apply one of these to hair, massage, wrap a hot towel around your head for about 20 min. Wash off.
There are hot-oil treatments (I think Got2be has one) and Pantene has a great restoratives line (pantene.com)
Treat your hair before cutting it :)

1] trim off all split ends
2] use the right type shampoo and conditioner for your hair
3] blot hair dry, not rub - wet hair is fragile, and will split or break
4] comb out tangles with a wide tooth comb [ never use a brush on wet hair - see above ]
5] avoid heated appliances - dryers, straighteners, curling iron, hot rollers
6] deep condition at least once a week

okay...i'm pretty much in the same sitch and you. I have really curly hair that used to have tons of split ends.
Use shampoo and conditioner for damaged/dyed hair and you will probably still have a few split ends so get some frizz reducing hair spray and spray some into your hand and run it through you hair and especially the tips.
I know it sounds really simple but it will help you hair.

How often do you cute your hair? Are you brushing it or combing it when it's wet or when it's dry. I notice when I comb my hair when it's wet unless I used a good conditioner it gets tangled So you might want to evaluate how you do your hair and that might be causing stress and breakage.

look its so obvious everyone has to put up with this. As long as you dont leave them for six months then you are fine. Get it cut every month if you think its that bad but dont go to expensive places go to like supercuts to save money and for advanced cuts spend more money.
