I learned that we aren't supposed to look back, but look forward into our faith.

Our text today was the Parable of the 10 virgins in Matthew 25:1-13. The question our Pastor asked was why did the 5 foolish virgins not take extra oil like the wise 5 virgins did? They knew the Lord was coming just like the wise 5 did. Why? Because they thought that they didnt need it. Just like many Christians today think that starting the race ( Accepting Jesus as Saviour and Lord) is all there is to it. The truth is the wise virgins were/are prepared to finish the race, no matter how long the Lord tarries, no matter how much persecution they must suffer, they will endure to the end, they are faithfull servants . The foolish virgins were not prepared to finish the race. They knew that the Lord was coming , but they did not prepare themselves for a long wait, they were not faithfull servants.( Many will say to Jesus Lord Lord!) All who know the Lord will know that his coming is near, but the exact time only the Father knows. So we must like the wise 5 , be always prepared no matter what. We must not only start and run ,but also finish the race as Paul said in . Hebrews 12:1 Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, (and in) 1 Corinthians 9:24 Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? So run, that ye may obtain. (and lastly in 2 Timothy 4:7 -8 I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course (race), I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.
So as in the end of the Parable Jesus said ..... Watch therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of man cometh. Matthew 25:13

3 men asked to follow Jesus; but he answered in parable form about how difficult it would be, no home, no family responsibilities, no looking back once position is taken.
The first reading was about the appointment of a prophet, and how he killed his oxen and used yoke to fuel fire, the sermon explained this was so he could not return to his old life, as it is gone, and he is on a different path, not looking back).
Shoot I forgot the second reading totally :(
So I learned to focus on my life ahead, and don't mope about possibilities in missed chances at the forks in the road when I went left instead of right, etc.
(Technically I knew this - and tell people to do this, so I just relearned this, being old - I have lived this.)

We got a political sermon (4th of July and all) talking about our obligation to promote human kindness, charity and dignity, even to those we may dislike or disagree with, and the importance of voting for political leaders who will do the same, acting in the best interests of the public's health and well-being.

At my church we learned that God wants Helen to keep her body pure until she's married.
Oh, and that Satan has been going around telling people the wrong time for the services.

We had an awesome service on the victory of Christians. That because of the power of just one drop of Jesus' shed blood no devil in hell and no person on earth will ever be able to destroy us. Hallejuah!
