Why do we fight against each other in the name of religion?

Being spiritual & being religious are very different. Religion is a tool meant to divide.

for those that don't know I just asked 2 seperate questions about Christianity and Judaism being mentioned in the Bible as a religion.. and the answers I got were that it was not.

So religion is man made and the only common goal that should be focused on is the will & obedience of God. If there is something other than that, you are worshipping man and not God.

Judaism is the term used in the Bible that refers to the Tribe of Judah, the tribe of Israel formed by the offspring of the Biblical figure Jacob (Israel). It then became the Kingdom of Judah, the kingdom ruled by the house of David after the Kingdom of Israel broke off following the death of King Solomon . Christianity is as it sounds the sect of people (a number of jews and gentiles at the time) who followed the Christ or translated in hebrew "the Messiah". Remmeber, Christ is a Greek word. So, a Christian is a person who follows the beliefs of their Messiah, Jesus. Jews don't have the same belief , because they do not believe Jeseus was the Messiah, because the profecies of the old testament were not fulfilled by Jeseus's arrival or death. Do you think Jesus would have condoned the Crusades, Inquisition, etc. As someone who is of the Jewish faith, I believe Jesus was very enlightened extrordinarily wise, but most of what he taught was pacifism. Sorry, if I strayed off subject just a bit.

The goal of religion is not to divide. People choose to use religion to divide. These are two very different things.

And people are not fighting in the "name" only of religion. They are fighting over the beliefs that have come to be associated with that name, whether or not the name is Biblical.

Yes spirituality and religion are very different. However, the logic of your argument breaks down very easily.

Judaism is mentioned in the Bible - count how many times the words "Jew" or "Judah" are used.

Christianity is a word that describes people who follow Christ, and didn't start being used until after His death. They were called "saints" back then and after his death, people called them "Christians" to differentiate them from other religious groups.

Jews are mentioned in the Bible and Christianity (followers of Jesus Christ) was described and also called "The Way" in the Bible. God is not interested in religion. He is interested in those who seek after him and have hearts dedicated to him.

I don't think I fight anyone in the name of religion. There are some religions that feel they need to defend their "god" and force people to accept their god.

Our God, Creator of all, doesn't need anyone to defend him. We are simply sharing the good news of Jesus as we are told to do. Nobody is forced to accept (as if that were possible) the truth is just put before them to accept or reject.

Its all in the suffixes. ism means a practice, thus Judaism is the practice of following the covenant that God made with His chosen people. ian means follower or belonging to a particular group. Thus, a Christian is a follower of Christ.

Religion is not meant to divide, you have it all wrong. I'm Catholic, does that mean I don't want to associate with anyone else? No, because I know I believe one thing and others believe other things. Some people use their beliefs to shut themselves off to everyone else. THat's probably what you see.

Just because it's not named as a religion, doesn't mean it isn't

Of corse JEsus said to his disciples to go forth and spread the good word, and they did. Jesus also set His church on Peter, the rock.

Jesus formed a church for his followers to belong to, which would be Christianity.

So no, it does not specifically name them, but when Jesus founds a church...it's a religion.
