I've wanted to get a tattoo for a really long time now and since I'm about to go off to college I figured it was the perfect time. I've been a dancer my whole life so I want to get "Dance Like No One Is Watching" in Latin on my stomach. I was wondering if anyone knew a translation for that in Latin. Maybe German too because I'm german. Thanks!

Latin:

Salta tamquam nemo spectat.

Salta = Imperative form of 'saltare', meaning 'to dance'
Tamquam = as if
Nemo = no one
Spectat = is wataching, is observing.

Salte is from 'saltus', the past participle of 'salire', an entirely different verb.

I have no idea unfortunately - it's been almost a decade since I studied Latin! :-( However I just wanted to say that I wouldn't rely on people on the internet for this. Particularly as you are unlikely to find any fluent Latin speakers. Not worth taking the risk of some joker coming on and spurting a bit of bollocks for a 'laugh' and end up getting the wrong phrase inked. I would recommend you find a local school or university that has a Latin department, and forward an email to a Latin tutor there asking very nicely for a translation, hopefully someone will be kind enough to take a couple of minutes out of their day to help you out! In fact I would email a few different places, just on the off chance one got it slightly wrong, I'd go with the majority!

Hello from Berlin,

the German translation for "Dance like nobody is watching" is:

"Tanze als ob niemand zusieht".

The Spanish word for tattoo is el tatuaje, German translation: die Taetowierung

Liebe Gruesse

In German I would put it:
Tanze als würde niemand zusehen

or

Tanze als wärst du allein
(Dance as if you were alone)

Latin - please have this cross checked at least twice as I am really not sure about it:
Salta ut si solus sis

tattoo = tattoo
der gleich in deutsch und englisch / the same in german and english
the same meaning and the same spelling in both languages.
but pronounce differently
go to a english -spanish dictionary
go to a english -italian dictionary
they may have the root latin word for "tattoo"
go to different brands of dictionaries
since some are better than others !
dance = tanz (M)
mag = like
no one = niemand
is =ist
watch = wache (f)
watch = wacht (f)
there are 2 correct ways to spell the word "watch" in german
watching / to watch = wachen
wachen =watching
" tanz mag niemand ist wachen ! "= "dance like no one is
watching "
is my very best translation based on my current knowledge of german and research skills
please ! please ! double check before putting it on your body or arm !!!!!!!
you will get different views ,since there is no one correct answer you may e-mail me for further discussions at
