Hmm...they are expensive, but worth it. Depends on who you are I guess..
Diapers and formula cost a lot. But if you breastfeed, that's one burden gone, and diapers are about 15 bucks a pack. So maybe a thousand.

Between baby gear, feeding, diapering, clothing, and doctors visits it can get to be a lot. But not everything that people get is necessary.

Baby gear: crib, stroller, carseats, changing table/dresser, swing, bouncer, jumperoo, toys, playpen, etc: $1200

Feeding: formula, baby food: $1000

Diapers and wipes: $600

Doctors visits: 14 days, 2 months, 4 months, 6 months, 9 months, 12 months, plus a couple for actual sickness at $30 per co-pay: $240 (not to mention the $80 per month in increased insurance premiums $960/yr)

Clothing: 0-3, 3-6, 6-9, 12 months size at $50 per size: $200

Not to mention just getting the little bundle of joy into the world. Normal pregnancy w/c-section was $20,000 before insurance, $4000 out of pocket.

Plus probably about a $1000 for all the other misc. things.

I totally forgot about daycare. I stay at home so our costs are $0, except for an occasional sitter, but daycare is expensive--can be upwards of a thousand or more per month depending on where you live.

lol YES kids are expensive!! The first few months of having a child i didn't find to be to expensive because really i was buying were diapers and wipes because i was breast feeding. I don't think they really start costing you money until they are on solids.

I am curious on where you are living. I joined a site called www.freecycle.ca and i know its world wide and its worth checking out to see if its in your area. I received alot of clothes and baby items on there for free.. everything is free on that site and when you are finished with it you give it to someone else. Its a way of helping your neighbor.
I had 2 baby showers too which also helped out a great deal. Lets just say i didn't have to buy one item for my baby. And i only buy things now because they are cute. In Canada we have stores called Once upon a child and hand me downs and that's where i go to get most of my clothing. I can buy 3 outfits for 18 dollars... which is an amazing deal.

Look up that site and maybe you can get some free stuff... Good luck

Children are very expensive. Chilcare alone can cost from $75 to $175 a week. Then there is food, diapers, clothes, toys. You will be paying this expense for 18+ years. you need to be financially stable before you take on a responsibility like this!!!!

once you have a baby the cost just come in on top of your normal expenses....its easy to pick up a pack of nappies when grabbing milk at the shop or doing your groceries.
babies dont need big brand baby clothes at all they grow out of them so quick, with my first daughter i spent so much on fancy brands and cute clothes only to realise she'd wear them once or twice and that was it...with my second i've been picking up the cutest little things from second hand places for a tiny amount. its saved me heaps!
you can always breastfeed longer, use cloth nappies, make your own baby food....you can always save.
the most expensive part is before you actually have your baby...the preperation of setting up a nursery, getting a pram, cot, car seat thats the expensive stuff! thank goodness you get 10 months to get it all.

Oh, it has been so long. But it can be made lower if you go to thrift stores and yard sales to get used (but safe!) things like beds and highchairs and sleepers. Breast feeding is cheaper than formula, and better for baby. Homemade baby food is also cheaper and better for baby. Kids can be really expensive. But if you are smart about not having to have brand new name brand thing it isn't as bad.

yeah they are.
Clothes, food, diaphers, toys, gas for doctor check ups, medicines for when they get sick, bath soaps, towels

figure every 3 months you buy new set of clothes($50+ depending if there is a sale)
At least 1-3 packs of diaphers month + wipes($50-$100monthly)
Baby food when they get that age(a good $100 a month about)
about 9-10 cans formula(at 8 1/2 months im hitting on 12 cans a month) 9 cans go over $170 out of pocket with them being $12-15 for small powder cans. varies on store prices

Toys, sheesh alot . Jumper cost me $80, Baby bouncer that they lay in$30,
Stroller depending(mine was $50)
Car seat, varries i think $30(never buy used ones, safety first). Convertable one when they out grow that one$100+
( mine was $150)

not including all the things you will have to buy for safty and to replace after breaking(yours or theirs).

over $2,000. Name brand stuff aint worth it, so dont worry. first 3 months dont worry on a lot of clothes cause time flyies. I have over 7 outfits she never wore

I can tell you that my husband and I have spent at least $1000 during my pregnancy so far, without including hospital bills.

The hospital bills would total out to another $4000 without insurance.

I'm currently 39 weeks: I am more than sure that diaper and care costs will deplete quite a bit from our budget.
