Atheists and self proclaimed people of reason ask questions they don't want an answer to because their mind is already made up. Why?

Same goes for Christians and Muslims. They ask questions with no intention of listening to an answer contrary to their beliefs. Questions about faith, life, the Purpose. Why?

Are we trying to convert hard headed people with our rhetoric?

I have no preconceived notions on this. I'd like to know why? Although I do have an idea why Christians and Muslims do it.

Okay, stop calling me a hypocrite. Try to answer the heart of my question. I fumble with the words and I'm sorry.

I think most of it is just to get people thinking...not enough of that in the world today.

The answer is simple. More people are committed to trying to convince others to their own didactic way of thinking than in learning about other points of view. That is partially why we have so many conflicts on this planet. If folks would learn to appreciate others and to live and let live, things would be a lot better. We've got too many self-righteous control-freaks running around these days ...

I easily tire of the religious-right fundamentalists AND the defensive and antagonistic atheists. It is very apparente that they are not interested in debate or sharing information because they are NOT interested in learning or considering anything new.

(Go ahead fanatics. Give me a thumbs down ... like I care. That simply proves you truly are a myopic fanatic! When you are appointed as God, judge and jury then I'll pay you more attention.)

:-)

p.s. I like your question.

They do it to try and get people worked up. If they really want to know religious answers they would go to people in that field and ask them. Problem is they might not like the answers they recieve. It's like a gay person asking question for straight guys only does he really want an anwser or is he just trying to start an arguement . They are trying to show how shart they are but all they do is show that their nothing but a bunch of idiots.

I think that deep down, we are all seeking Truth. Some of us think we have found it, but ask the tough questions anyway in the off chance that someone might give an insight they have not thought through for themselves.
It's also a biblical principle - something along the lines of "As iron sharpens iron, so a man challenges another..." (definite paraphrase!)

If I was on here for legitimate reasons, this question would apply to me.

If I try to change your mind, and tell you that some people are open to other opinions, would you want to hear it, or have you already made up your mind.
If you say you would consider it, you proved yourself wrong.
If you say you wouldn't, you're guilty of hypocrisy.

I am not trying to argue with you or anything. I think you have a point to some extent. I am just pointing out the nature of this question.

Well I think when a person ask a question they expect a decent response. but all I have ever gotten is hate and venom from the atheists. Which only goes to show there true colors. I think they are jealous because we have something they are afraid of! OK maybe that wasn't nice but is it true?

They are not asking questions to become informed, rather they post so as to inform. Perhaps another venue of website is necessary for preaching and ranting. Those who really want to know information would then actually have a place to ask without judgment.

You know, that's a good question...

Anyone have an answer for that one?...No?

Well then,...
...now that we've determined the absolute uselessness of the majority of arguments which are posted here in R&S, ...
... I think it safe to say that we can all just log-off now and resume some semblance of a normal life with our friends and families...

Okay now! everybody: LOG OFF!
.
..
...
... ummm, seriously guys, - you can log-off now...
.
..
...
...Really, man, - I'm not kidding! Just log-off and walk away...
.
..
...---[sigh of exasperation]--- Alright! If no one is going to leave, then I guess there's only one thing left to say:

Theists and Atheists:
---..."LET THE GAMES BEGIN!"...---

They do it to prove a point, because usually they answer their own question with details, quotes, facts, etc. They (mistakingly) think that if they "prove" themselves they might make someone "see the light" and convert to their way of thinking.
