I wouldn't give them anything. Where I live, fire works start in May and continue until the kids go back to school. Help your dogs to cope. Perhaps they want to go downstairs where it's quiet. They are going to have to learn to deal with it. What happens when you aren't home and kids decide to blow up the block?

Call your vet first thing in the morning to get a proper dose, and maybe a prescription drug for them.
I usually put my dogs in the basement, in their crates with blakets to muffle the noise a little, while the TV or music going pretty loud with the most soothing music I can find..
then add acepromazine or benadryl (depending on your dog) and wait to leave until they are good and sleepy!
Oh, there is also a homeopathic anxiety remedy that you can add to their water... Rescue remedy. I start that two days ahead of time. 2 of my pups can not have ace. In aussies/ bcs or any herding breed, you want to be careful due to the MDR1 gene possibility.

Take him to both your vet and to a very reputable dog psychologist/behaviorist/trainer. I don't know what your dog's history is but he could have been abused, or he could be extremely dominant and aggressive, or even very submissive and biting from extreme fear. He may be able to become socialized with training, or he may need prescription tranquilizers to help him (along with training and socialization). Unfortunately those two particular breeds are not known as the friendliest dogs. Still if you really work on it there should be at least a degree of improvement.

It's best to talk to your vet. If you decide to go with Benadryl, the dog gets 1 mg. per pound of body weight.
Do NOT give your dog Acepromazine without doing some research! Some breeds of dogs absolutely can NOT have it, especially Boxers and other deep chested dogs.

I'd call your vet to get the best way to calm him down. However, just leave the poor pup at home while you enjoy fireworks elsewhere.

I work for a vet, and I have to give one of my dogs acepromazine for his fear of fireworks. It's a prescription drug--ask your vet about it or other possible sedatives which would be safest to use in your particular pet.

Benadryl is good as it will make them sleepy. I'm serious.
