My ferret is about 6 months old and we bathe him about every 2 weeks. He absolutely hates it!! He's gotten so worked up that he poops in the tub?!! How can I make bath time more enjoyable for him?

I have 5 ferrets and 3 of 5 still don't much like the bath but i found that the water needs 2 B a little more than warm not hot but half way between warm and hot. All ferrets poop in the tub but if you try training your ferret (carpet shark) 2 go poop before you take him out of the cage. 2 train your fuzzy 2 do this just keep putting him in the litter till he goes
or for 1 or 2 minutes before you take him out of the cage. the warm bath makes ferrets go poop but if they go poop first then that's that's.

Ferrets body temps. run about 99 - 101 F which means if it is warm to you should heat it up a little more and if you fill it just about 5 inches deep.

Ferret shampoo is obviously a good choice. I bathe four ferrets at a time and I use diluted baby shampoo. Make sure your rinse really well to avoid the itchies. Do not bathe them any more often than once every 1 or two months. I actually used to bathe mine once or twice a year, but mine seem to getting "rat tail" more often. I'm not sure if there's a connection between aging ferrets, the frequency of bathing and the development of "rat tail", but I do bathe them 4 times a year now and we have no more "rat tails".

Chances are there isn't anything you can do to make it more enjoyable, ferrets simply do not like to be bathed. The good news is your ferret doesn't need to be bathed so often. In fact, doing so may actually be counterproductive. Oils are what causes ferret odor, bathing causes more oils to be produced. Bathing less frequently will do more to lessen odor then bathing frequently will. Give fewer baths, you'll both be happy.

In addition to Cinnamon Sprites excellent advice, try changing the bedding every day. This is the best way to keep odor down. Also, keep the cage and litter pan spotlessly clean and that will help too. :)
