I have never had a lip ring put in, but to give yourself an idea of the pain, pinch whichever lip you are planning to pierce. It is quite painful, for the skin on your lips is quite thin, and there are some nerve endings there. And, like your ears, you will still have a hole there even if you do take it out, and I assume for the first month or two, the skin will be a bit red, and noticable.

I went with my friend to get her's done. It didn't hurt her initially. It only hurt during the week or 2 of healing (which still wasn't bad). After that she was fine and she LOVES her lip ring. She took her's out for I think a week at most and it didn't close up. And if you decide you don't want it anymore, if you leave the ring out for long enough, it will close up just like an earing would. :)

to me the only part that hurt was healing. your lip will swell up and its sore for a day or two. i took out my lip ring last year and you can still see the hole but its not like a huge hole. you can just tell you had a piercing b4.

I think it depends on the person. I got my lip done a year ago and it didnt hurt as bad as my eyebrow. What hurt was the inside rubbing against my gums. I took it out and you cant even tell it was there.
