My first job, my commute was 3 minutes away. i hated it...lasted a year

My next job was 20 minutes away...i liked it the first year but hated it more and more as the 2nd year went on...and it drove me to drink a LOT

my new job is 70 to 120 minutes away. i really like it and its exactly what im looking for. The commute is really rough...and im worried that it will get to me. I have looked for closer jobs and there just isn't anything. I still have the chance to go back to my last job...but I don't think the last job really is the best thing for me mentally and physically.

Moving is out of the question...I just bought a house a few months ago..

Should I go back to my old job and wait to find something closer...or stick it out...I would want to stay at this job for several years...since I bounced around so quickly with my first two jobs...

Since you love this job, stick with it for now. However, you should continue to look for a similar job closer to your home. You're right - the commute will get to you sooner or later. Unless you make enough money to rent an apartment close to your job, it's going to get very hard. The only other option would be to telecommute 2 or 3 days a week, if that's an option for your position. If you go back to the old job, it will feel even worse than before because you'll have left a job you really like for it, and there will always be a bit of resentment on top of all the other things that made you not like it in the first place.

This is what I'd do. Make a list of the PRO's and CON's of both situations. Give points to the items on the list and see which comes out higher. You seem confused a little right now.
I think you can put up with the commute since itis a job you love. I had an over an hour commute for 3 years, then the company moved about half way (closer to me). It was great.
You never know what might happen. It is so rare that one finds a JOB / CAREER that they really like. I would never give it up to go backwards. Stick it out. Who knows what might come next????
Good you bought a house. But that does make commuting more of a reality. You just aren't as mobile.

I don't think you should go back to your old job - it sounds like you were very unhappy there if it made you drink so much! If you really like your new job, I would try and stick it out. See if there's a way to make your commute easier (like taking public transportation so that you can read on your way to work). Or maybe you can carpool. My current job is only 10 miles from my house, but we have employees that live well over an hour away that have worked there for years because they love it so much.

You are the only one who can decide whether the extra commute is worth it to you. If it's usually 70 minutes each way, and only occasionally 120 minutes, I'd probably stick it out. If it's often 2 hours each way, then you've got to decide how much that extra time is worth to you.

If you decide to go back to your old job, try to figure out a way to deal with it some other way than drinking too much - that will just mess you up eventually.

And even though you just bought a house, youi might consider selling it anyway. Even if you lose a little money, might even out with a lower commuting cost - and your time is worth something, too.

Good luck.

I'd say stick out the commute and put the house on the market. Finding the perfect job is harder than finding the perfect house.
