We have all seen movies where couples fight in an expensive restaurant, or someone yells at a store clerk... and I was wondering how often this happens IN REAL LIFE. Have YOU ever yelled at a store clerk, or got in a fight with a friend at the mall and looked up to see people standing around staring at you?

Expect the unexpected !!! Life happens to the best of us and at a time and most inopportune place, when it's least expected, not only have I made an *** of myself in public, but of others as well... be prepared to say I'm sorry, or to at least be able to laugh at yourself... give it time, it'll happen !!!

I have had arguments with shop workers, albeit not shouting (I'm a quiet - in volume, anyway - person), the most recent of which being my friend bought a new mobile (cell) phone.

It was fine when she first used it, then she decided to change the pin number from 1234 to something more relevant to her and harder to guess. She keyed it in, then keyed it in again; it was accepted, so it was obviously correct and it wasn't a number she was likely to get wrong in the first place.

Then, when she went to turn it back on (to make sure it worked), it wouldn't accept it - told her that the wrong code has been entered. She tried it again, before she gave it to me to try a couple of times (incase of what exactly I don't know, but she thought another person's participation might help). You get 5 shots before it locks up, so she phoned up the code retrieve helpline (on my phone, for people who are wondering) and asked them what it was. Lo and behold, it was the one we'd be doing the whole time.

By this time, it was obviously a fault with the phone, so she decided that she would take it back. And when I say 'she decided that she would take it back', I mean she decided that she would accompany me whilst I took it back for her. She's not very forceful in character and she had been told that she couldn't return it, so I was probably the better prospect for doing this.

From what I remember, our conversation went something like this, where M represent my good self and W represents the worker:

M: Hi, my friend just bought this phone and its already gone wrong.
W: What's the problem?
M: Her pin code isn't working.
W: Is it the right pin code?
M: Yes.
W: Are you sure?
M: We phoned up the retrieve service to make sure. Yes, we're certain.
W: Well, I'm afraid you can't return a used phone.
M: But its obviously faulty. Here, you want to try it? The code's ****. You can even phone the helpline up to check, if you like.
W: No, that's alright. We still can't give you a refund because its not in the condition it was purchased.
M: Of course its not in the condition it was purchased - its broken. She may be shy, but she's not stupid.
W: I never said that...

I can't be bothered to type it all out; essentially, it carries on in this vein for about 15 minutes, until they finally decide to give her the refund because they've noticed a lot of people in the line that's been building up behind me leaving because this shop now appears to be difficult to deal with.

I used to have a friend, he was so crass and treated his girlfriend like crap in public all the time. So the three of us went to see a movie one time, he had had a beer, and also brought one in the theatre. He was talking the whole time in a crowded theatre, and started yelling at his girlfriend and at the screen. He was cussing a lot and when people told him to be quiet he'd cuss them out. Then he started belching a lot. At this point, I could hear people gasp in disbelief and say "oh my god". I slouched down in my chair. Then his empty beer bottle fell and rolled all the way down, all eyes were on us and me and his girlfriend were mortified beyond belief.

That's just one, of many embarrasing moments with him. He's cussed at old people and little kids in the grocery store, yelled at his girlfriend so loud in public that strangers interfered.. he even tried to run over a black person once. This guy was always making scenes. I don't associate with him anymore.

I do feel like yelling at the store clerk sometimes. They can be pretty rude. There have been a few occasions I fought with my boyfriend in public.

Oh yes, I've done it many times. One incident happened about 20 years ago, at the opening of La Bamba, as my then husband and I went to the movies. He was the type that every penny he had, every penny he had to spend, while I was trying to save it. When he'd find money that I had hidden, he used to get upset and accuse me of being a hoarder. But this time, we happened have just paid for our tickets and bought our pop corn and drinks and as we were sitting down he started to scold me for hoarding one more time. I lost my temper and although I didn't mean to do it, I handed him my supersized drink in a way that flattened the cardboard cup and the drink shot up all over him..... and the people sitting behind us. They complained and we were thrown out of the theatre as a result.

Needless to say, we divorced two years later.

I don't think I've ever been the one making the scene in public, but I've been on the receiving end a few times, having worked in shops and customer service.

Most of the time such "scenes" happen because of alcohol or substance abuse or because of very mentally unstable people.

I think "scenes" are quite common in reality.

Not a LOT of people. But I've had a couple lookers-on when I had a disagreement with the manager at KMart.

Yup! I made a scene with my ex-boyfriend once outside the dining hall at school. He was SO MAD at me for that! ;) (Good riddance!)
