Eri, neither of the plights you so readily speak of is equal in value to your soul.

Atheist, keep in mind that when the settlers got sick and died, God was there to insure that some would survive and expand. When God is in shools, guns are kept out.

Don, tell me you're not that dense and insensitive. The Amish obviously are God fearing, yet that doesn't stop the ungodly from commiting crimes against us. We are humans. You still haven't answered the question at hand.

Just my opinion, but the main reason why American is getting so far away from God is that we have it too good here. We've become too materialistic to think that we need God.

The American Constitution was written by as most of you know 39 men. However, 17 of those men had a degree in ministries although a slight few actually served as ministers. The constitution was also written with the 10 commandments in mind. And was written because it was what the majority of what the American people believed at that time. The First Amendment was written so that the people would have the right to chose their own religion. Which also gave non believers the right not to believe if that's the choice they wanted to make. Before the American Constitution was signed no other country allowed it's people the freedom to chose which if any religion they wanted to practice or believe.
And since the First Amendment was written there have been others who came to this country whom practiced other religions or none at all and the constitution gave them the right to believe in god or not. And since not everybody believes in God, the same Amendment protects them for their beliefs as well. That is why some schools no longer play the "National Anthem" or say "The Pledge of Allegiance". And with some not believing in God they wanted a way to protect the 10 commandments and so this country made some of the laws to co-inside with them in hopes of creating and having a majority population of moral upstanding people.

I think it was PEOPLE who ddcided to fight for the rights of ALL. The founding Fathers were NOT ONLY Christians. There were members of ALL the Faiths that were present in the colonies, who fought in that war. A couple of signers of the Declaration of Independence were JEWS, one was a Free Thinker (You'd call him a pagan today), a number of Religions were represented there. BUT, in Close examination of that esteemed document, nowhere do I see the signature of God (by any of his many names). All too often I see the idea that our natin was founded by Christians, which is simply not True: "Thomas Jefferson, John Adams and Ben Frankin ... held naturalistic philosophies, not Christian ideologies. In 1813 Jefferson wrote in a letter to Richard Rush, "Religion is a subject on which I have ever been most scrupulously reserved. I have considered it as a matter between every man and his Maker, in which no other, and far less the public, had a right to intermeddle.”. God, the Christian God, has NEVER been a part of America's founding, nor a part of America's Government. You are simply trying to revise history to suit your OWN narrow views of things as they "should be" not as they truly ARE.

The early settlers (Christian Pilgrims) did come to America seeking religious freedom because of people who would not let them practice their Christian belief's and yes God hates America at this point, but keep your head up because Satan power is about to be taken away and there will be peace on earth again. God Bless my friend and take care.

So, basically you're saying that God made Columbus get lost and accidentally discover the continent which eventually would become North America? And that God helped write the Constitution? Who's side was HE on during the Civil War?
This is not a Christian country.
We are not trying to "push God away." We are trying to allow all faiths, no matter what they believe, to have equal fairness and equal time under the First Amendment. If you think that means we're pushing the Christian God to one side, that's on you, not us. You're the ones who refuse to acknowledge that other faiths are as valid as your own. You're the ones who think that only the Christian god should be recognized. This country used to talk about it's fairness - I haven't seen that here in a very very long time.

The Declaration of Independence was installed by businessmen and landowners. The bit about being founded with the help of God? Well in a way yes. But not the way that most people think.
No offense to anyone, I have what might be a unique slant on all of that.

God did not help found this nation- he doesn't get involved in human politics, because he says that he will wipe it all out one day and establish HIS kingdom. People in this country are indoctrinated from birth to be loyal and patriotic to this country and it's government and that God was directly involved in making this country what it is today. WHAT A CROCK! That is such a narrow- minded line of thinking when you consider all the faithful servants of God in OTHER countries which ban Christianity! Christians are everywhere, and no one chooses where they're born. Do you really believe that God helped Europeans come to North America to slaughter and push aside a humble, peaceful people who lived in harmony with God's creation so that they could create the nation we live in today (meanwhile other Christians around the world whose circumstances do not permit them to come here are forced to live in terrible conditions where they must worship underground and risk punishment or death if they're discovered)? NO WAY! This country was founded by imperfect men seeking religious tolerance and tax- free living conditions who somewhat used the bible as a guideline. God had nothing to do with it. The bible says he will destroy all earthly governments and install his own which will last forever. That includes the United States government as well, does it not? (Daniel 2:44)
As to why people push God away, read 2Timothy 3:1-7

Self-Direction. The Founding Fathers sought direction by God. Many were Preachers. George Washington was seen praying on many occasions. Thomas Jefferson spent a lot of time in church. Many times the Fathers referenced God. saying that this nation will not survive without seeking God's will.
.......... inalienable and originate from God. The Consitution & Bill of Rights are written to protect these rights, never having the authority to author or empower them................Rights come from God The Constitution is not an instrument for the government to restrain the people; it is an instrument for the people to restrain the government -- lest it come to dominate our lives and interests. --Patrick Henry "Liberty cannot be preserved without a general knowledge among the people, who have a right, from the frame of their nature, to knowledge, as their great Creator, who does nothing in vain, has given them understandings, and a desire to know; but besides this, they have a right, an indisputable, unalienable, indefeasible, divine right to that most dreaded and envied kind of knowledge; I mean, of the characters and conduct of their rulers." -- John Adams (Dissertation on Canon and Feudal Law, 1765)
We are slowly being stripped of our freedoms, because as Thomas Jefferson wrote, “…can the liberties of a nation be thought secure when we have removed their only firm basis, a conviction in the minds of the people that these liberties are of God?”
"It must be felt that there is no national security but in the nation's humble acknowledged dependence upon God and His overruling providence." -- John Adams

Observations on the debate, so far...
"We are trying to allow all faiths, no matter what they believe, to have equal fairness and equal time under the First Amendment."
If the religious "right" had its way, that ammendment would be repealed. There is no room in their philosophy for religious freedom.
"now that America is not a God based nation"
Sorry, Spider. It never was. If so, show us the reference in the Constitution.
"two words.....end times"
Two words: Get real.
"Atheist, keep in mind that when the settlers got sick and died, God was there to insure that some would survive and expand."
ROTFLMAO! Shh! Let's not talk about how he failed to guide and protect them before that. Neither shall we mention the luck and survival skills of the lucky ones. Of course, "expansion" meant killing those already on the lands. Let god's will be done! Manifest destiny!
"When God is in shools, guns are kept out."
Yeah. On the desks for quick access.
"The early settlers (Christian Pilgrims) did come to America seeking religious freedom because of communist who would not let them practice their Christian belief's"
Communists in 1620? Gee, Karl Marx wan't born until 1818. Who were these proto-Communists?
Who says our educational system is failing? It's students are uncovering the secrets of the ages. (Gives full meaning to GWB's "Left Behind", and it ain't no rapture.)
"Here it is speaking of "the great whore" which is a city. "
Wins the award for Misused Cherry-Picked Scripture. Yep, it's a city. Rome. Duh!

America was founded with the help of God and if you will notice after reading your answers that no one said why people are trying to push Him away only by whom the country was founded America is leaning to political correctness and themselves and what they want instead of realizing that without our Father there would be no America
