You really are suppose to get the impurities out of your hair first so that you have a nice smooth hair shaft when coloring. If you color your hair with excess gel in it, then it will not be as rich as it should be, but will be fine. Alot of people crack me up with ' it should be dirty so the color sticks better' ..this is such a myth! I truley must be clean, but for your situation, it will be okay one time, just don't make it a habbit.

Wash your hair first, so then all the gel is out or else the dye will just be dying the gel, then, if you live with any family, ask them if they can help you dry your hair while you work on something like getting the hair dye ready, if you already bought it.

I think if you dye it with gel on it, the colour wouldnt stay. Because, the dye will be on the gel. When you wash your hair, you are washing away the gel, as well as the dye. Just do a quick wash and ask your family members or friends to help you dry while you do something else.

I would think if the gel is distributed unevenly in your hair, it might give some sort of highlights effect.
I guess gel is mostly water based, and since dye has some chemicals in it they might get a little diluted.
You could turn out with Cruella de Vil stripes and spikes
