People are having so much fun with their answers I don't really want to be the dour, crusty ol' heathen party-pooper glowering from the corner by the fire . . . lol.

Such an *interesting* topic, though. I just can't freakin' help myself. *G*

It's an open question whether the old sacrifices were required, or simply in thanks. Probably a good bit of both, with a somewhat mercantile "gift for a gift" thrown in for good measure. Keep the harvests bountiful, insure victory in battle, bless a marriage . . . good, practical, homey type things that saw our Elder Kin as part of the community, honored guests at the feasts, that sort of thing. None of your Middle Eastern "sin" and "propitiation" and "wretchedness" for the free men and women of the North! :-)

Nowadays . . . well, I'm a Freyrsman. And I like to say that sometimes Freyr makes fertile the fields of my endeavors, and sometimes he (*ouch!*) prunes a few branches in the orchards of my fruitfulness, and SOMETIMES, every once in a great while, when it's simply *necessary* . . . he (*YIKES!*) plows up big honkin' BOULDERS from the soil of my life . . .

Had one of those honked up recently, end of the last school year. No more at work internet for teacher! :-/

Well, it has been said that we sacrifice virgins. That's not true. We have, on the other hand, been known to sacrifice virginity.

Other than that, there is the blood of the moon, monthly. And there is the bloodless sacrifice of the Living God.

If you are up for conversion, why not consider invoking the god or goddess within yourself, and see whether you are worshiped? You will recognize a true worshiper, as they tend to be on their knees!

I sacrifice a small bit of wine, occasionally, and let me tell you, it is like taking a sucker from a babies mouth, I cry and scream and stomp my feet on the ground, but eventually I come around and realize that the Goddess deserves a sip every now and again too, otherwise, why would she have put that root there for me to trip over, she is getting her drink on. hehehe

My "deity" would like me to surrender my ego, along with my desires and attatchments so that I might see past the illusion that existence has permanence so as to see that all simply "is", being neither good nor bad except in each one's personal judgement.
Hopefully, this will lead one into a life of mindful awareness, compassion, kindness and empathy for everyone and everything as one comes to live the truth that all are one and separteness is an illusion.
This one's "deity" is the innate Buddha nature that is within us all.
This one hopes that you "convert", enter the stream and awaken.
may it all be well with you.

No, no, Kallan. You may have Patrick, love. I'm just sayin', you know, that it's psychologically unhealthy for the two of you (and Jack) to resist the temptation of me. Alright, well, it's probably impossible, really. Come out of the closet, Kallan! Laptop did! You know you wants my cookies!

*Blushes* Aww, that Carpathian is still trying to deny his devastating crush on me and our Jack is jumping on the bandwagon. How cute!

You all need to sacrifice your pride and ego and just admit it... you want me.

Cookies for everyone!

*Dances a jig*

Nope mine doesn't require a sacrifice of any kind. Now I do share energy with Spirit. That's about it.

Praise and service.

Hebrews 13:15 Through him then let us continually offer up a sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of lips that acknowledge his name.

Romans 12:1 I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship.

they simply wanted to mimic the sacrifices made to God. The devil is often finding for a thank you to mimic God. using fact of Jesus, on the instant we don't might desire to sacrifice something yet have faith and obey in him.
