I just noticed my kitten floating around the bottom of the pool. When I got it out it was barely hanging on to life...it's so small. It is meowing and moving around now but it's in shock and it's full of water. What do I do? How do I get the water out of it's stomach?? Please help I'm so scared for it :(

BTW for the assholes, I live 2 hours away from a vet so shut the hell up. They stay outside and this has never been a problem before. It's not a newborn...it's about 3 months old. I did cpr when I got it out of the pool I keep rubbing its back around its lungs to try and relieve some of the pressure in its belly and I have it wrapped in a warm blanket.

Oh and it's 10:00 pm, so if I went to a vet here in the West Virginia coal fields I would walk up to a closed building. I'm just so scared I'm in shock myself. Thank you guys that are serious about this and trying to help me, I'll add details tomorrow on how it''s doing.

Okay so it's been about an hour and a half since the mishap. The cat is responsive, she's been cleaning herself a little and she seems to be less bloated after a few very raunchy burps. I'm feeling a lot better about this and I think she's going to be alright. I've taken the advice of no food or water so that she can just pass any excess fluids naturally, thanks for the advice because I was going to try and make it throw up. I really thank you enough for some of the help you guys have given me, I've just been so nervous.

All information seems to say the same things. However since your cats is responsive I would monitor her, keep her warm and comfortable, do not offer her any food or water and allow her to get the water out of her lungs and stomach herself. If her level of consciousness changes then deal with that as it comes. In the morning get her evaluated by your Veterinary staff.

Hold your kitten on a slant with it's head down to try to drain the water from it's sinuses and lungs. As for the water in the stomach It might make it throw up hopefully anyways. But you really need to get it to a vet ASAP! I know if a human goes into shock it can kill them so I have no doubt that it would be the same for animals. Please hurry!!
I'm so glad that you saw it in the pool. It will need lots of attention and love while it gets over this whole ordeal. I'm very scared for your little one!! Let us all know how things go!
Please stop reading the answers to your question and GO right NOW to a vet!!

Sorry! Had no ideal it was 10pm for you and that you are so far away from the vet. You sound like you are doing everything that you should! Ignore anyone that blames you for it falling in the pool, they are not being reasonable! Instead they should see how much you care about it! I'm so happy that you did CPR on it. Many would of just assumed it was too late. I would have tried too! I love animals! Thank you for the updates. All the best sweetie!!

I had that happen with a kitten once that jumped or fell into the toliet bowl.. If your kitten is meowing that is a good thing, but turn your kitty head down and rub its stomach and back to try to get some of the water out.. now you kind of have to watch though for secondary infections like pneumonia and things like that.
You can also do what we do with new born puppies and hold the kitty in your hands with head facing away from you bring it from chest high and swing between your legs to force the water up. you can try to see if that helps.. MAKE SURE you don't drop your kitty but do this in quick motions to almost where it seems like your flicking the kitty.. do that a few times and wipe its nose and mouth to make sure it doesn't go back in..
Please let me know how she does
your kitty does still need to go to the vet though

You're on here for this? No wonder the kitten fell in the pool. Call an emergency vet or something. Geesh. Poor kitty.

If it has water in its lungs he is in trouble. He needs to see a vet soon. The lungs on small kittens are still developing and he will need antobiotics.

You do mouth to month and not asking on the computer. Please try to get some help where you are. None of us can physically help your poor kitten, get to a vet asap!!!!;^(
Glad to hear your kitten is getting better, you still need to get him/her to the vet. That is a lot of trauma for a kitten. All the best;^)
