Sometimes people post questions asking atheists why we're happy with death being the end.

Accepting something is different to being happy about it.

I know some atheists are happy in the knowledge that this life is all we have. Personally, I'd love to live forever in one way or another, but that's not going to make it so.

Commonsense tells me that death is the end.

Why live in denial of reality?

Isn't it better to make the most of what little time we have?

What is common sense and what is reality.

Some people think that miracles and God are realities.

And others think that the opposite is true.

But who really is the one to decide that? Only the truth

So make this life the fullest.

But through my eyes, living to the fullest means living life alive. In me and God's opinion sin (separation from God) is death and thus life wouldn't be fullest without life which is God.

If you choose to read this whole thing, good, i commend you for that. Just remember. Reality is often foggy. And common sense may not be what is right all the time.

it particularly is real, yet regrettably the philosophy of existence regularly isn't meshed properly with the fact of existence. ideally, an atheist additionally has greater reason to cost existence and the deeds of an atheist could be seen as relatively altruistic on a similar time as the deeds of a theist are continuously accomplished in substitute for the conception of reward. although basically faith varies very much in human beings's lives and human beings have distinctive outlooks on existence that are no longer purely based upon their non secular ideals or lack thereof. so different factors enter the combination and its complicated to truly say and easily persist with it to a pair sensible ordinary.

I think it really sucks that death is the end. I think it sucks even more that I was lied to for nearly 35 years. I feel cheated in a way, because I think I might have lived the first half of my life a little bit differently had I not been trying to guarantee a place in the "heaven."

Christians are basically taught to suffer in this world so that they will be rewarded in the next. If they would only open their eyes to the truth....

I think you are wasting your valuable time worrying what Theists think... like you said, "Isn't it better to make the most of what little time we have." Death is the end of Life as we know it, so get out there and live your life to it's fullest while you still can...

As a Christian, I try to make the most of each day, even though I am promised eternal life. On this earth, theists die as well as atheists, and leave behind loved ones and associates too.

You cannot use common sense and understand supernatural.

Denial of reality is not a bad thing, but do not put that kind of limit to God who is not limited like us.

I rather make the best of it here and after. That is a logical choice to me. I long to be with God in eternity, but I truly appreciate this life as a gift.

I agree with your viewpoint.
When people pose a question such as you illustrated, they are really guilty of asking a question that can best be defined as a false dichotomy.
The mentality and logic supplied makes me cringe as much as any logic provided by (in my opinion) the un-empathetic man Kirk Cameron. I know some of you here like Kirk, but I can't help but find his methodology counterproductive and demeaning to those of us who have become accustomed to using our minds.
No offense. I just disagree with the guy.

Its like asking why do non-genie believers not want three wishes. It shows a refusal to accept reality and a preferral to live in a land of make-believe.

Afterlife or no, it is always a good idea to make the most of this life. It's the guarantee so why waste it hoping for something more?

It seems that a lot of people take comfort in pretending there is something else. I wish there was going to be a paradise with all my dead loved ones there to greet me. But I know it's not going to happen and have accepted it.
