It just means the art of living well !!
Get established so well in you inner being, inner life, the inside world of you, that,
handling the life outside of you (the material aspect) becomes comfortable, irrespective of what happens... We remain 'untouched' by anything that happens outside (not a passive way), intensely involved in everything we do.

I think there are two view points and answers;

The first is religous/Spiritual

Jesus made it simple in saying "Love the Lord your God with all your heart, mind and strength"

Love your neighbor as you love yourself (nullifying the other 8 commandments and summarizing them)

as well as the final verses of the book Ecclesiastes 12"

For then the dust will return to the earth, and the spirit will return to God who gave it.
Ecc 12:8 "All is meaningless," says the Teacher, "utterly meaningless."
Ecc 12:9 Because the Teacher was wise, he taught the people everything he knew. He collected proverbs and classified them.
Ecc 12:10 Indeed, the Teacher taught the plain truth, and he did so in an interesting way.
Ecc 12:11 A wise teacher's words spur students to action and emphasize important truths. The collected sayings of the wise are like guidance from a shepherd.
Ecc 12:12 But, my child,[fn1] be warned: There is no end of opinions ready to be expressed. Studying them can go on forever and become very exhausting!
Ecc 12:13 Here is my final conclusion: Fear God and obey his commands, for this is the duty of every person.
Ecc 12:14 God will judge us for everything we do, including every secret thing, whether good or bad.

The second answer is secular and practical:

Live each day of your life as if it is your first and last, take nothing or no one for granted and try to forgive yourself for the mistakes you have made, forgive others readily and live with as few regrets as possible. Take heart and have joy in each day's new discovery - "The Journey IS the DESTINATION".

The art of living is experiencing life not just existing. For me it did mean that I surrender myself to God. Life has much more meaning for me now.
Peace be with you.

Yes, surrendering our little self(ego) at the altar of god is the first step in the art of living. Secondly doing our ordained duties without expectation of any reward. Loving all as our own self and not harming any creature in this world vountarily. Adore god and abhor sin.

art of living is to execute the living instinct without damaging the interest of others/other living beings. when one is not knowing the next minute outcome, the meaning of that very fact is that we have already surrendered ourselves to the unknown!

Art of living is evolved by Sri Sri Ravi Shankar in which he helps u to manifest God within u by observing ur breath thru exercises like Ujjai Breathin, Sudershan Kriya, Meditation and serving the people and attending satsang. So breathing exercises, service to humanity, and satsang are the three principles on which ones life, if based, will be worth living and enjoying and making it meaningful.

No. I believe we should live life as we want. If you want to be a spiritual person, then live that way. Your life is your own canvas, and you should paint it however you want. If you lived only to surrender yourself to God, your painting would be bland. But if you live life how you want, it can be multi-colored and abstract.

I hope that answers your question.
