That's a picture of Gehenna in Jerusalem. It is the place described in the Bible as being Hell.
I don't see why I'm supposed to be afraid of going there. It doesn't look that bad. Granted, it does look a bit dry and fairly overcrowded, but most of it looks like a park.
Is the catch that there aren't any volley ball nets there?
Let me guess, no BBQing allowed?
I know! On Saturdays in the summer all the tourists show up and it's just torture.
So remember, when someone tells you that you are going to hell, that's where you are going.

If you only believe in what you see, you are asking for lies.

Good Morning WCP, Nice pic but I really don't believe that this is where one will be going if they don't make it to the Golden Gates of Heaven. No Offense. Pictures can be deceiving as like people and ministries. They want you to see something that really isn't there, like a mirage or an illusion. God gave Lucifer 1/4 of the world/earth to reign and this Gehenna that the Bible describes might be a place where evil reigns but I can't imagine that this is actually Hell. Some believe that we are in Hell now. Others believe that Hell is actually the grave in which we are buried in after death. There are so many interpretations and views on what Hell looks like. You have to remember, the Holy Book was written back where laws and ideals were greatly different from todays laws and ideals. And not too mention a country that had different religions and beliefs. If you realize, the Jewish faith believes that the Messiah hasn't come yet so with this in mind one has to re evaluate what Hell might look like in the Christian sense. Now I'm not trying to say that the Bible is wrong or was written unjustly but you have to remember that it was man that wrote the Bible and it was also man that decided what to place in the Bible. A lot of writings were not placed in the Bible, a lot of context were either deleted or just not placed in the Holy Book when the scholars decided to place it all together. The scholars might have decided that one book was more appropriate than another or the wording was better in convincing those to fear God and His power and to fear Hell after death of those wrong doers. You have to think realistically because of the depth of the Holy Bible and also the time it was written. I hope I made some sense. Have a Blessed day!

I was chatting it up with this nurse that lives about an hour and a half from where I live on the computer. We decided to meet and it sounded like fun. Well I met her and she was nothing like she had described on-line. I am physically challenged and damn over dinner she had me moving in with her and taking care of me for the rest of my life. Well I've done pretty good at looking after myself for close to 50 years and didn't even hardly know this woman and she was making all these false plans. Well I left right after dinner and when I got home there was a message on the computer for me and she was cursing me and saying that I was making an awful mistake by not being interested in her and her dreams. She also suggested that I cease having contact with her, which I had planned anyway thank God. Well this kind of freaked me out and I had been talking with this other lady on this dating site also and was suppose to meet her the next day. Although I was uncomfortable with meeting her after the day I just had I did go and meet up with her. I remember that it was snowing and very cold. We got a coffee and went and sat by the frozen lake and talked about our lives, dreams, hopes etc. After talking for about 6 hours I returned home. We continued to speak but now on a daily basis. We then began seeing each other every weekend, as we lived 2.5 hours from each other. Well three years later we did something that we both swore that we'd never do again. And we exchanged vows on May 20, 2007. I thank my lucky stars daily for deciding to keep this date and meeting up with this lovely woman and not allowing this first date from hell to scare me off too badly.

Don't you find it a bit scary that you think you know what Hell will be like and bet your soul on your limited knowledge. Jesus tells us it is a place of anguish, so I believe Him. The worse part to Hell is the separation from God. You may think that sounds not so terrible but it is all hope gone. Whether you believe in God or not right now, He provides for you and protects you from many troubles that you are not even aware of. In Hell this will be withdrawn from you. Search for God while He may be found. God loves you and doesn't want you in Hell.

If you really think about it, hell has freedom. Only heaven won't let you do whatever you want. Most of what we do is sin according to the bible. If we take out of life everything that is wrong there really isn't much to do. Sounds really boring, huh? I got away from church because the church wanted to dictate what I ate, what I watched, what I read. If the devil wants to make you hate something, why does church make you hate hell? Mormon by the way, not a cult.

When Gehenna is used to describe hell, it must be taken in a biblical context, which you can get to through the wiki article you mentioned.

In Biblical times, Gehenna was a continuously burning garbage pit on the edge of the Jerusalem city limits, where “'It became the common lay-stall garbage dump of the city, where the dead bodies of criminals, and the carcasses of animals, and every other kind of filth was cast...'

The dump was full of rotting garbage which sent up a stench that could be smelled for miles."

It was an unpleasant place to even visit, and it would be considered a terrible place to spend eternity. If you've ever been around an incinerator, you've experience just a little bit of the pungency that Gehenna must have experienced.

Hehehe...I'm so glad that not everyone posting in here are so...faithful? to God. I mean, faith in God is great, don't get me wrong, and I admire them for it. But...yeah.

Heh, I'm not a people person, so I'll find a place in the shade to chill and watch the goings-on...and I hate BBQ anyway. ^^ Since my friends are probably goin' there with me, I'll just have to remember to bring a deck of cards, so we can play poker with Satan.

Luke 16:24 - The rich man shouted, 'Father Abraham, have some pity! Send Lazarus over here to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue, because I am in anguish in these flames.'

You forgot the most important part of Hell, the flames that never stop burning! No, I don't think God meant for Hell to be a place where you would want to play volleyball . . . but it will be a non-ending TORTURE!

God Bless You

I'm amazed at the number of christian who read the bible but just read and remember what they already believe. Any new information that contradicts their idea is instantly dismissed as a lie.
