My searching brain was thinking about this today...
Let's say that the athiests are correct (okay those of you who know me, don't have a heart attack because I'm actually thinking as an atheist for a minute, lol)
Let's say that the earth continues to exist without any cataclysmic event (did i spell that word correctly) such as war, pollution, global warming, or a meteor crashing...
What do you think will ultimately destroy all life on this planet? How long will do you think the earth could ultimately sustain life?

Hey, Skyhawk....I'll be happy to partake of the cookies, if you'll break bread with me? Or should I say break a bran muffin with me?

In about 5 billion years or so the Sun will run out of fuel. When this happens the core will collapse and the outer layer will be temporarily blown off and it will expand. This expansion will stop somewhere around the orbit of the Earth. Rather or not it engulfs the Earth, it will certainly be the end of the Earth as we know it. Then the Sun will shrink down and cool leaving whatever is left of the Solar System in the dark.

No such thing as an atheist. An atheist is someone that doesn't believe in anything. Everybody believes in something. Worried about the end of the world? Assuming you live that long. Young people (age 17, 19, 20, 23, 27) die every day in many different ways. Look at some statistics. Fact is everyone will die at some point - question is what day and what hour? Are you prepared? Do you know where you will be going when that hour comes? There is a way to know and be sure. It is who you know that will determine where you will go.
God bless you.

We can protect our planet a lot better than we do now.
Ultimately I believe that the earth will cease as we know it due to some cataclysmic event, like a meteor or comet.
I still have hope that mankind can get past the idiotic religions and learn to live together in peace.

The longest earht could sustain life is as long as the sun lives. When the sun gets too old it will expand engulfing the earth then finally it will collapse in on itself but seeing as how the sun is a medium sized star it will turn into a white dwarf and not a black hole
also because of the suns medium size it will take a long time for it to die

Humans will ultimately destroy themselves (given their current track...in fact, we may have already caused irreparable damage to the Earth...anyway...). If the events you mentioned do not happen to end the earth, they will at least kill off a huge portion of the population eventually because the world is not using its resources sustainably, overpopulation, etc (but I'd still bet on global war). At that low point, humans will have to either adapt or become extinct. I'm projecting extinction.

War, pollution, global warming, or a meteor all have the potential for creating evolutionary change among species who survive.
So, life could go on until the sun explodes, but I doubt that life for humans will continue until that time without some evolutionary change, or even extinction.

some sort of flu, virus, or disease will make a major number of people die within our lifetimes. But I do not believe the entire human race will be killed off really soon.
Hal Lindsey wrote several books in the mid-seventies-early 80's about the impending doom prophesised in revelation, and I bought into it. "Late Great Planet Earth, Satan is Alive and Well on Planet Earth..." several others...all based on Revelation...none of it happened. At one time I actually believed that Ronald Wilson Reagan (666) was the antichrist. but.....no one knows what's going to happen---however, the microbes are winning. There WILL be a major epidemic of some sort, likely within the next decade. we are overdue.

The nations will still be arguing about seating postitions as the last sea creature dies of pollution. Man will soon follow suit.
It will then be a race between pollution and starvation as to which kills us first. Most of the lack of food in the world is not because of climate, but politics. Greedy politicians and military hording food, letting it rot in warehouses until their price is met.

I think, without divine intervention, the Earth itself has billions of years, but humans aren't as lucky... global warming has a certain amount of time before it becomes IMPOSSIBLE (which i'm gonna guesstimate a hundred years give or take) to live on Earth.

I think that ultimately mankind will have to spread beyond earth.
What puzzles me is why some Christians seem to long for some sort of earth destruction or apocalyptic ending.
