He's only 10 weeks old and his nails were like Daggers twice I cut the quick and one bled. It stopped, but should I clean it and what not?

Just leave it alone. It will be fine. If you ever have a problem when the nail won't stop bleeding, try putting the nail in a bar of soap, moist soap would work better. Please don't let this stop you from cutting your dogs nails. Even professionals cut the quick sometimes. You can get some quick stop at a pet shop as well. Play with his feet when you aren't going to cut them also play with his ears and mouth because there may be a time when you will have to give medication and it will make it much easier if he is use to you touching his ears and mouth. Good Luck, I love puppies!!♥

It's just like if you had not been paying attention when you were cutting your nails and had cut into the edge of your finger. What would you do? You can use a disinfectant to make sure it doesn't get infected, or a styptic pencil to stop bleeding if there is any, just make sure you gently rinse it off afterwards because the dog will probably lick at it. If it's not bleeding you can probably just leave it alone. Just watch it for a few days to make sure that it doesn't get infected.

Just leave it alone. They can not bleed to death, but a bleeding nail is messy. Even direct pressure to the nail will stop the bleeding. Corn starch can also be applied in a pinch. Kwik Stop powder is the best to have on hand--stops the bleeding instantly. Don't try to clean it or put anything on it as this can start it bleeding again.

just leave it there will be no problem.
I would suggest getting blood stop ( kwic stop) this is a powder that when applied will stop the bleeding it also has an antibiotic to stop any kind of infection
Even professionals will occasionally cut the nails to short.
I'm glad you are starting at a young age.
Keep up the good work.

You should have some quick-stop powder with you if you are cutting your own dogs' nails. that way if you do cause bleeding, you can use the powder and get it to stop. I have heard stories (I have no idea if they are true) that dogs can bleed to death from the veins in their nails. Again, that seems a bit excessive but I will let others comment on whether that is true or not.

If you are uncomfortable/scared, your dog will be too. Both PetCo, PetSmart and groomers will trim dogs' nails (PetCo charges 8.00) so it might be worthwhile to have someone else do it!

I did the same thing to my guinea pig! We cleaned it with rubbing alcohol and then left it alone to heal and my guinea pig is now fine, just be careful and just cut the ends, don't go to high up!! It might be easier to go to a vet or a groomer and have them cut his nails because they are experienced and know how far to cut.

We did the same to our Siberian. We cleaned it with alcohol then put bacitracin on it. Then put a clean sock over his foot. We had to keep an eye on him to keep him from pulling it off, but he left it alone after about a half hour.

He runs under the table when he sees those clippers.

If it is not bleeding, then you can leave it alone. My vet suggests using corn starch, when I cut the nail and make it bleed.
Continue to trim the nails, so they won't cut anyone.
