I started an aloe vera fast on Friday morning. For the first 3 days, you only have a 10 oz protein drink and 12 oz of aloe vera gel. Suprisingly, I made it all the way to today without any substantial hunger pains and had so much energy, I exercised everyday. I thought fasting was supposed to make you weak and really hungry? And, to top it off, I dropped 6 pounds...I wonder if I am messing up my metabolism?

I do start adding 500 calories into my diet tomorrow, but I have to continue with the protein drinks and aloe vera gel.

I fast once a month as a part of my yoga practice. The aloe vera keeps the acid in your stomach from aggravating your stomach walls since it is not used in digesting. The hunger pangs are not hitting you because the shake is filling with a high Glycemic index.Usually when one fasts, all the yingest is water, believe it or not after the third day your hunger pains will disapear.are you messing up your metabolism.....yes and no.As long as your body does not go into starvation mode you will be alright

If your're not getting hungry yet, you will soon, if your're fasting, becareful, you need the daily requirments of vitamins & minerals to go on and so many seervings of this and that. It may be best to have a nutrious snack or something now and then.
If your're not messing your body up now, you will soon. I'm no doctor, but you do need more than that or you will mess your system up. If you're looking to loose weight, just cat down a little, also, NO "junk" food, and foods that are fattening.

No, it doesn't. The Muslims fast for a month, eating only in the early hours of the morning and when the sun sets, they're still alive! Well, good for you that you are losing 6 pounds and no, I don't think you're messing up your metabolism. But the moment you crave for food, stop immediately and take something light. Don't force yourself to go on this fast. If you prolong it, undesirable consequences may result. Good Luck!

fasting deprives the body of energy and nutrients needed for normal functions. any rapid weight loss is mostly water and muscle loss. fasting also causes fatigue and dizziness, with less energy for physical activity. and it feeds the cycle of "yo-yo" dieting.
as an aside, there is a misconception that fasting "cleans out" the system, removing toxic waste. to the contrary, body chemicals called ketones build up in the body when carbs aren't available for energy. ketosis (which can be fatal to people with diabetes) puts a burden on kidneys.

YES - YOU ARE MESSING UP YOUR METABOLISM!

You did not drop 6 pounds - you eliminated 6 pounds of water.

Diets don't work and these fasting things can be dangerous.
