i'm not Mormon, but it's not okay. that's like the Catholic Church buying the entirety of the United States so they can guarantee a ban on abortion and homosexual marriage.

If they land is for sell then they have as much right to buy it as you do. If the seller did not want the LDS church to buy their land then they could refuse the sell, but obviously they want the money more then the land.
Last I heard also the owner of the land get to control it with in reason. That includes not allowing trespassing and controlling what is done on their land. Would you be happy if someone came to your place and started talking down you and your views to all your visitors and neighbors?

Is it freedom of speech they are taking, or is it just trying to create a place where people can go to just be quiet or visit or whatever, without having to worry about anti-Mormons getting in their face all the time?
Free speech is one thing, but taking it to sappy extremes is something else.
It's like, your freedom to swing your fist ends where my nose begins.

By free speech I assume you mean heckling people who are getting married. The church has the right to buy land in SLC and the church has the right to prohibit offensive speech on the church's property.
