I got my tattoo done Thursday night, so it's been about three days now. I know that's when the peeling and scabbing supposed to happen right? Is that what the bumps on my tattoo are? (Picture below.)
And also, it the reason it keeps swelling up is because it's on my foot? I've barely gone anywhere today but by the end of the night it kills me, yet this morning there was almost no swelling.
I also have to go back to work on Tuesday, how should I care for it? Just a clean sock? I work eight hours but I can try to do very minimal walking, I just have to stand on it for eight hours.
My tattoo artist told me to leave it absolutely dry but I've heard from my friends and websites that A&D is needed to keep it moisturized, so anytime it seems to dry I'll put a little on. Is it common that that causes a little bit of the ink to bleed (you can see in the picture).
Please help, I'm just a nervous wreck being it's my first tattoo.

I have 3 tats and used to live with a tattoo artist. Yes keep the A&D on it (it does not have to be a thick coating) but make sure it is not the kind with zinc in it. When you go back to work you may want to lightly bandage it with a piece of gauze and keep your shoe from rubbing it. It should not be really painful at this point just uncomfortable and perhaps if it is scabbing a bit itchy. The ointment may be causing the bumps I've seen that before, my ex bf was sensative to the ointments. He usually just let his heal dry but they itched him to death and they peeled really bad. The last one I got oozed a little ink. The artist must have really been heavy handed.

I have seven tattoos and the first few times I used neo-sporin on them to prevent infection and heal faster. I would get a lot of ink "weeping" during the healing time. I found out that the ant-biotics in it drew out the infections, but also the ink as well! The last few tattoos I received I used plain skin lotion to keep the area moist so it would not scab-up so bad. The plain skin lotion worked a lot better to keep the ink in. The healing time for tattoos hurt the most; more than the needle work. It takes about 3 to 6 weeks to heal all the way. Change your sock a lot and don't put any pressure on it. And don't scratch it when it's itchy, and don't pick at it!

okay i also got my first tattoo on thursday but my tattoo artist is world famous and an expert. here is what she told me. use a and d ointment the first three days (once a day.) then lotion it three to four times a day for the next two weeks.

she did say however that when putting on ointment or lotion if it bubbles or oozes out it means you have used too much and its pushing the ink out. here is my suggestion. put a very small amount of lotion on your index and middle finger and rub it on in a circular motion (this type of motion promotes cell regeneration and healing.) make sure its not globbed on. also feel free to rub it in good. you wont ruin your tattoo by doing this.

Dont keep it dry. I put ointment and lotion on my tattoo and the bumps and swelling went down within a few days. I was told to keep it dry only for the first 2 hours.

BTW, nice tattoo!!!!

I know you aren't going to like hearing this, but to me? it looks infected. This could just be because it's so covered in a&d, but since it hurts you so badly at the end of the day, I'm wondering if you're having an allergic reaction to the ink. Go back to the artist and ask them what's going on. They should be able to tell you better than any of us can anyway. Do it before tuesday so you can ask him what to do about work as well.

i got one on the top of my foot and it looked similar ..tiny bumps all over at first the a lot of peeling... i kept vasoline on it it helped it from getting too dry and hurting...also when i went to work ( i had to stand and walk for 5-7 hours straight) i would but vasoline on it then lightly wrap it in sports gauze and tape the cover it with a sock... it took about 3-4 weeks for it to completly heal and top peeling but the pain stopped around 7- 12 days after it was done....hope that helped....danielle!

My boyfriend is a tat artist and he hears all the time from many other artists NOT to use A&D ointment, but he swears by it. He puts it on all of his tattoos, and it stops the swelling and redness. I don't know where your artist got KEEP IT DRY from, you have to put lotion on it to keep it moisturized. But you do NOT let it soak in water (like in the tub or dont let water pool on it in the shower).

Where are your after care instructions??
As long as there is no redness, you shouldn't
have to worry. Talk to your artist.
