I really don't know about all brown breads, rye isn't good. But if your dog is used to having grains, then a little most likely won't hurt. I would ask your vet to see if its appropriate. I do know that fish carries iodine and for some reason the dogs system can't digest or get rid of the iodine. It will kill your dog. So some of the other folks that answered your question I'm not sure that they are correct either. Best bet talk to your vet. I'm sure you can call and ask a question without being charged for it. I did when my dog ate a pound of milk chocolate. She is still with me too.

It's not bad for the dog, but a high quality balanced dog food should meet all your dogs food requirements and you won't need to feed anything else. If your dog is begging and you gave him some brown bread, that's okay, but shouldn't make a habit of it. some dogs can be allergic to wheat. Just don't feed chocolate, fried foods or onions. Dog food is best. Or a healthy dog treat.

Brown bread is fine. My dog eats raw vegetables, brown bread raw meat and has never been healthier. She now has a glossy coat, but while she was eating dog food she had her skin scratched and bleeding, with broken hair less than 1 cm long. Dog food is full of chemicals and many dogs have a reaction to these preservatives. I was told this by a vet.

The best food for your dog is a balanced diet, that can either be a GOOD dog food or you can certainly cook for your dog. If you do decide not to use dog food then you need to make sure what you choose to feed your dog is food that will meet their dietary needs such as chicken, rice and veggies and proper vitamins etc. Is a little brown bread every once in a while going to kill your dog? Probably not. Would I feed it to them everyday as a staple to their diet. No.

A slice of bread every now and then will probably do no harm, unless your dog exhibits allergies towards it. And for the posters that say avoid carbs, don't worry about it. Dogs are omnivores and will eat meat and veggies too. In fact they can eat almost anything you can eat.
Also, if you look at the ingredients in dog foods (especially dry dog foods) you will see all sorts of ingredients similiar to those found in breads.

I just cannot understand why people post questions like this!
Just what could be the reason for feeding a dog brown bread? Does it sit down for afternoon tea and cucumber sandwiches then? Feed it a well balanced Chicken based quality dog food and have done with it!
Damn. Just realised that I mentioned Cucumber. Now we'll have loads of questions to see if that is alright for a dog!

my neighbour has a male labrador. He gives the dog brown bread (6 pieces) and 2 eggs twice a day , one in the morning and one at night . Occasionally he gives it milk . once or twice a week he gives him chicken and rice . Some times he also gives the dog fruits like papaya . Rarely he gives him any junk food . His labrador is very healthy

Many many dogs are allergic to wheat (not deathly allergic, but can have skin reactions). Don't feed your dog bread. Dogs may be scavengers, but we don't have a wolf problem in the plains states. Dogs are not natural wheat eaters and many have gluten/wheat allergies. So it is best not to. If you do feed them more and begin to see skin problems, there's a good chance that they do have an allergy to it.
Feed them veggies (green beans, carrots, peas) if you want to give them a "human" food snack.
