For the LORD your God is a consuming fire, a jealous God.
–Deuteronomy 4:24

If there's just one and only one God, I do not see who God has to be jealous of.

And for those that mention this fact, exactly what is a "false idol", and where would it come from if there is no other god to idolize? And if there is no god behind the statue, why would God really care about a meaningless statue? Does the belief in the meaningless idol/statue actually create a deity behind the statue then to give it meaning (which of course would lead to God not being the only deity)?

Deuteronomy 4:23
Take heed, therefore lest, forgetting the covenant which the Lord your God has made with you, you fashion for yourselves against his command an idol in any form whatsoever. 4:24 For the Lord your God, is a consuming fire, a jealous God.

"Be careful not to forget the covenant of the LORD your God that he made with you; do not make for yourselves an idol in the form of anything the LORD your God has forbidden. For the LORD your God is a consuming fire, a jealous God."

--- When God delivered the Israelites from the Egyptians and brought them to Canaan, the promised land, He told them that the people who live in that land worship other gods and do things that are "detestable" in His sight. That is why He wanted to destroy them, and at the same time, give the land to the Israelites. It simply means that after the Israelites settle in the land of Canaan, they are not to worship the gods of the land that they are to conquer (actually, when you keep on reading, God ordered them to completely destroy the inhabitants and leave no survivors).

There is a song that goes this way:
"You are jealous for us, for you see our lives as a treasure."
As Creator of man, he is jealous of everything that takes His place in our hearts. You see, He is a God who is separated from those whom He loves the most --- us.

Idol worship. People used trees and rocks and carved images and bowed down to them. Some worship the moon, earth and stars.

God said there is only one God. Man keeps making more.

There is but one TRUE God!

He is jealous of any of His creations showing their affections to any other god, person, or anything else that takes our full love and attention off of Him. Amen.

God Bless You

Imagine this, your son who came from your womb, whom you care of with your life would not respond to you as his parent but would rather give his affection to someone else. Wouldn't you be hurt? That same as with with God. He created man, more so the Israelites whom He has chosen would just turn their back on Him. So He just has the right to be jealous.

Maybe his parents?

He is jealous of something he created, because according to the bible - he created everything! (and don't forget humans wrote the bible - but humans don't lie - right- or make things up - right?
