Being a Mormon Woman, and knowing how the process works, the Husband and the Wife are called to accept another wife into the union. There are many qualifications that need to be met before the calling can even be extended...and it is a decision between the wife, the husband, and God as to if such action is to be done.

I know that God loves me, and that He would never ask me to do something that 1) I couldn't do and 2) wasn't going to work out to be the best for all involved. That being said, and with lots of prayer and fasting, and IF I gained a testimony that we were to do this, I would be fine with it. But I would need a strong testimony of it first.

oh my goodness, why do people always have to bring this up?
Ok here's the scoop. Yes, we (the mormons) practiced polygamy when the church first began. But then stopped it! I don't believe it would ever happen again. Cause the only reason they did that was because of things that were going on back then. Times where different then, then they are now. We did that so no widow or single female would be out on the streets. And also, not many people even practiced it, there where only a few called to do that.

Now if by some chance this were to happen again. What tenshigirl35 said is the right thing, I couldn't of explained it any better.

Actually, I was born into the RLDS church (FYI, there are two factions of the Mormon church -- the Latter Day Saints are based in Utah, the Reorganized Church reformed after Brigham Young left for Utah, under the guidance of Joseph Smith III in Independance MO).

Our RLDS church never believed in that particular practice, it's one of the reasons the church actually changed their name after the new millenium began (do a search for Community of Christ). I am not one for telling other people how to live their lives; however, in my relationship with my husband, we are completely monogamous. We were each other's first partners also. I can never see myself with anyone else, and I believe that my husband feels the same way.

In any case, to my knowledge polygamy was not a required practice; the only thing that was required was that a woman had to be married to a prophet or higher-up man of the church in order to gain entrance to heaven. Hence the reason that so many women married Brigham Young and Joseph Smith II, even years and years after their deaths.

And to respond to someone else that posted that the Mormons believe in "Millions and Millions" of other gods... the Mormons only believe in one God (the Christian one -- yes, they are a Christian church the same way Episcopalians, Catholics, Baptists, Seventh Day Adventists, Jehovah's Witnesses, and all the rest are Christian churches). There is mention of a couple of angels and prophets in the Book of Mormon that are not mentioned in the bible, however.. the Book of Mormon was written WELL after the Bible was initially (and again, and again) transcripted and translated. And surprisingly enough, things DO change after a few hundred years. And you do meet new people and have different experiences over a few hundred years also. So the mention of angels and prophets in the book of mormon who were not in the bible is not "out of the question."

If you ever read the Book of Mormon, it (in a nutshell) reveals that the Mormons hold the beliefs that two of the tribes of Israel made their way to the American continents, and that Jesus had visited their descendants (the Maya) in South America [the Mayan "White bearded God"] between the time of him raising from the dead, and his ascension to heaven.

I don't think it's ever going to be a commandment again because we are too close to the Second Coming of Jesus Christ, and after the Resurrection there will be a lot of sorting out of family ties. People who have died young in life, say in wars or by disease, will be able to find and be sealed to one eternal companion. The individual groups (not members of the Church) who are currently trying to perpetuate polygamy will find that there will be a reorganization, and the long-term plan is really just one wife per man. That's just my opinion, and it is simply based on studying the old Jewish custom of having someone marry their brother's widow in the event of the brother's death. Thanks for asking.

No, yet then it is not my nature. i've got continuously been aggressive with myself nonetheless...ie if I rode a bike to artwork in say 15min, i might attempt to pass speedier day after right now. I have not have been given any project, letting others beat me, as quickly as I see they're aggressive and if curiously to point plenty to them, I quietly lower back off. Competitiveness with myself, is approximately having relaxing, approximately convalescing myself or purely being stupid. the only time, i've got felt any tension is from different women, who placed themselves under tension. They needlessly choose for to be the superb or seen to be the superb, and then projected that tension onto others. I many times discover such women, are relieved while 'thangs' are placed right into a wholesome attitude. i'm uncertain if its a cultural, family individuals, church or women 'thang'. lol in spite of each thing i stumbled on ladies to be like that throughout school and none of them have been Mormon.

God never commanded polygamy to be put into practice in the first place. Remember why the "Woodruff Declaration" came to be. It was an ultimatum to the church from the government - recant or we are coming in to annhialate you. Woodruff said "it seems wise to discontinue for a time".

I'm sure it was hard. You would have to ask yourself if God really instituted this. That is what the women in those times did and because they asked (prayed) they recieved the answer that it was. As have I. If those women did not pray to get that knowlege it would never have worked.

Breif Boxer ~ We believe that we will be joint heir to the Kingdom of God if we follow his precepts. But Get this straight. We will progress after this life, but Heavenly Father will always be are Father and he will always be infinatly more powerful than us because he has been around for an eternity more than use.

" " About the more than one gods. Of course there are more than one god. Heavenly Father (Eloheim) is the Almighty God. Indicating that there are more than one, that is obvious. But we only WORSHIP the Father, and give Glory to his Son, and Listen to the Holy Spirit.

I'm not married, so I can't really answer your question. However, as long as polygamy is against the law of the land, in any country where the church is, then it will not be reinstituted. So in my opinion, it's pointless to even think about this until or if the law of the land changes which I don't think will happen in my lifetime.

uhhh...you obviously do not understand what the whole "polygamy thing" was about. In my situation it would be highly unlikely that we would be asked (yes, the participants had to be ASKED) to do this, as my husband can in no way support a second family (you have to be able to support financially multiple families). Additionally, since we are not walking across any prairies with handcarts and oxcarts, the need doesn't exist anymore to support women (who are often more secure financially than are men).

It's not just a "hey I think I"ll go get me another woman and have more luuuuvin" thing.

my question to you is this: How would you know if god commanded it? Who would god tell? I think it is a decision made by humans, not god.
