I have read on this forum and elsewhere "It's not our place to question God" or "we are not to question God" and the like.... I'm looking for the theology behind why some Christians think this is so.

You probably query God in reverential Awe. Talking to and with God is good. Questioning Gods plan is OK if you are seeking doctrinal proof.s. You can be frustrated also--look at the Apostles--so of them did also.
Most people confuse questioning God and denying God--there is a difference. good question

I have the same kind of relationship with God which you do, but many churches out there teach that God is this big mean ogar up there waiting and watching to zap us whenever we mess up.

They do not comprehend God as a loving heavenly father or daddy.

I recall attending a wedding rehersal some years back at this certain church. The guy who was about to marry my cousin had formerly been in seminary, then dropped out. When he wanted to tell an off color joke, he had to go outside, he could not tell it inside the church since somehow I guess he thought it was ok to tell bad jokes outside but not inside?

Or perhaps he believed God could not hear the bad joke if he left the church building?

But this is the same denomintion where college students often reported to me that they were either kicked out or disciplined for asking too many questions.

I think its ok to sometimes ask God, why this, or why that happens. The thing is a lot of the aswers are already in the Bible and there is kind of no point to look for answers that are not in the Bible.

Basically whether we like or not what God does he will always be in the right because he defines right and wrong because he created reality.

I think that Him being God and us being humans, He understands why we'd question Him on things just like we would to another human. BUT we have to TRUST in Him and know that HIS way and HIS timing are perfect even if they don't 'appear' that way to us at the time! God always brings good things from bad.

I have had MS for 6 years now and it's not a nice disease. I have NEVER asked God why. Why? Because I know it didn't come from Him. I know He's letting me go through this in order to grow more in Him. Also, when strangers try to 'pity' me, I just tell them that my trust is in God so I will be fine, but there are many more people who are much worse off than I am.

I don't know if that helps any, but..!!

I question God all the time, sometimes I get the answer and sometimes I don't.

There are just things that we will never know the answer to until we see His face. That has to be accepted.

However non Christians feel that Christians should have the answer to everything or we are weak in our beliefs. I haven't seen an atheist or agnostic that could explain all the questions I had about their faith.

I question but I also know that if I dont have the answer, it does little to disuade that I know Christ lives.

I have been taught that God is ok with your questions. I believe he would rather me question him then blindly follow. I ask my questions then go research the answers. He always turns out to be right. It's not that I didn't trust him in the first place, I was just curious. I think it is just human nature to question everything. I think God is ok with that. I just prove him right each time. This is how I reach a deeper understanding.

I'm really not sure...it may be your definition of questioning God is different from theirs. Some define questioning God as assuming that God is wrong and you, the sinner, are right. If the definition is this then yes questioning God is wrong

Others (and I hope this is the way you see it) define it as going to God for understanding about a perplexing result, rule, etc. If that is the way you see it, have fun questioning!

I say it all the time .
You must question everything in order to grow with the word .

Those that follow blindly are the ones ( That I've seen personally ) that have been taught that way by the way their pastor preaches to them . My Mother and Father were that way at first . Luckilly they matured with the bible as they got older .

Did you just answer your own question?
If you like the idea of questioning God, then good for your.
I found that my understanding of God through his Bible increased exponentially when I allowed the Bible to reveal the author to me, rather than take ANYONE else' word for it.

It's because of tradition....We are taught as Children that God is Right and we shouldn't question His Will. But you're right, it is OK to question Him. Not that He'll change His mind, but sometimes, He'll give an explanation and sometimes He'll tell us we just have to trust Him. .
